Good idea, execution needs work

I enjoy butter for hosting and finding cool new events to attend, and connecting with people. But the last couple of weeks, the app has been so slow and sometimes non-functional. This is very stressful when you’re hosting or attending events because you can’t get in contact with people. I hope they can resolve this soon.

Disappointed

Used to say how good this app was referred it to people I knew but was disrespected by people off the app and when I talked to management nothing was done about it. The numbering system is quite appalling also had people at events rave on about “I am number one on butter” was very off putting. It’s a shame the potential is there however the morality is not.

Buggy

On an iPhone - the app crashes and refuses to open without being redownloaded. Great idea though but non ideal execution.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. For bug reports, the App Store unfortunately doesn't give us the tools to actually help you - we can't access account details or troubleshoot from here. Great idea but needs some safety features

Love the idea of being able to meet and make plans with others in Los Angeles, but it seems like bots have already found their way into the app:/

Response from developer

Thanks for flagging this with us. Real people meeting real people is the whole point of Butter, so anything that isn't that gets removed. If you can shoot over what you saw to hello@joinbutter.co (or report it in-app) we'll act on it ASAP. Hope you'll give LA another go.

Big fan

Great app!!!

I love the concept of the app. There are some bugs, but overall it’s much better than meetup etc.

Response from developer

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review, love that you're loving it!

Slow

Extremely slow to load. Every single time. Plz fix! It’s not my phone, it’s the app

LA needed something like this

LA is such a huge city with so many pockets of areas. Especially with traffic it can be so hard to find people to do things with and overall meet people. This app made it so much easier to connect with people who want to do the same things as you.

Response from developer

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback!

not good

i downloaded it to rsvp for an event in LA. it had me choose the neighborhood I lived in in LA. when i selected it, it took me to a “coming soon” page that I can’t navigate out of. do they think that if i live on the westside, I can’t find and drive to events around the city not on the westside? it’s truly a less fleshed out, duplicative app for meet ups…

Response from developer

Hey there, thanks for leaving a review. We launch in neighborhoods to ensure that there's enough people near you to do things with when your area goes live. LA is so big, people typically won't travel far to meet someone new. Sorry that disappointed you. However, you can jump past this waitlist by coming to the app via the event link the host shared. If you do this and actually use the app, we'd love for you to reconsider your rating.

Good but needs work

I feel like there are some flaws in this app with the notification system. I wish I had the ability to mute people without unfriending them. I don’t need to be notified about every single activity that every single person on my friends list joins. You really need to be able to customise notifications otherwise I’ve resorted to turning them all off because it’s just getting unbearable. There are other buggy things that happen such as the app prompting me to confirm my attendance to an event that has already passed or has been cancelled.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review - totally hear you. We'll have customisable notification settings landing very soon, so thanks for sticking with us!

Great app for the people

Love the app, but it's not a 5 because some bugs need to be ironed out and a bit more money invested in usability. Otherwise, it beats Meetup and Facebook events fair and square. I hope it stays true to its roots once it goes commercial. Good luck!

Great concept

Be great if the ‘magic’ link didnt continually say its expired. Be good to simply get into the app. Just let me set a password; not that hard

Changing States

Hi, I like the concept of this app. I downloaded it because I am moving to Melbourne end of January and would like to meet new people. I downloaded it and tested it on my current place that I live Perth. Perth is locked though which is fine if that how the apps meant to work. But I am moving to Melbourne soon and I don’t see a way to change my location from Perth to Melbourne? It’s just stuck saying Perth is still locked. I would like to change it to Melbourne please so I can meet new people in a new city.

Good idea, but limited options at this time

Sometimes you get a group interested in an idea, but you may feel you only resonate with one or two people in the group. Would be great if you could create a side chat or one on one chat with people you are interested in to perhaps plan something with individually. Or add friends so you can create mutual friendships.

Response from developer

Great news - both of these features are live in the app now! You can DM anyone, and add friends and follow others to build your own community. Make sure you've updated to the latest version and they should be right there for you. If you run into any trouble finding them, reach out at hello@joinbutter.co and we'll help you get set up! I like the idea of this app

I am someone that has organised events in the past and I am not surprised that a lot of the people that RSVP flake out of events it’s really hard to put in all the effort and people don’t show up. I feel like there should be some kind of thing in place for people that constantly RSVP and then. Don’t show up or remove themselves hours before the event and ghost or don’t give any reasonable explanation. This aside I have met a few lovely people and hope to continue doing so .

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. And you're right - when the minority flake it ruins the experience for the majority. We're building out tools to improve exactly this as we speak, and would love to have your thoughts as part of this to make sure we get it right! Glad to hear you've met some great new people outside of these experiences.

Great way to meet friends!

What an awesome way to meet new people and form new friendships. You can chat, meet and join awesome clubs.

Feels like Facebook meetup groups

I was really keen to try this to expand my social circles, but honestly this is starting to feel like Facebook meetup groups in an app. Except those meetup groups even in melb have tens of thousands more people…

Don’t bother!!

You join a group and it states that it needs to reach 300 before your group can launch. However my group almost hit the 300 and suddenly we’re back to needing 243 to go.

Also according to the app my group has 57 people signed up of the needed 300 but we’re apparently 51% there!!! What a joke. Don’t bother downloading you’ll never get to use it.

It’s honestly giving data collecting pyramid scheme.

I do not trust any of the positive reviews at all!!

Response from developer

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. To clear something up straight away - Butter is definitely not a pyramid scheme; the app is designed to help people meet IRL, and groups unlock based on interest so we can make sure there’s enough momentum behind them. It sounds like the progress bar caused confusion; that’s on us. We’ve reworked how that’s displayed so it feels more accurate and transparent. Your group is still counted, and no one’s progress has been 'reset'. We've also just gone live to the first groups in Sydney, so hope to see you around the community soon!

denied?!?

love the concept of this and was so excited to make an event and meet new people, but came to find out when you say “maybe next time” to someone who rsvp’d it says they’ve been denied for the event

i understand you can’t have everyone at an event but this just seems mean and unnecessary for people wanting to make connections and new friends.

please change this!

Love this app

Feels much more sincere and less commercialised than other social platforms. Browsing through the variety of events, from dinner parties to fun run clubs, making it easy to connect with real people and authentic experiences. Highly recommend for anyone who moved cities recently and looking to make genuine connections.

The app I needed

Moving to a new city and making new friends as an adult it’s always tough. Now it’s easier to find like-minded people and fun activities to do.
