The next big thing
A great concept to change the way people view online dating. I love the bars Buzz has partnered with and I hope it continues to grow!
Obvious Issues Already?
Preliminary thoughts ahead of the launch:
Issue 1: the in app camera. I understand the desire for current selfies/authenticity to avoid catfishing/etc, but it is extremely hard to gauge attraction from a single photo. Further, the app’s camera lacks the ability to focus, adjust exposure, etc. All the selfies I took came out incredibly noisy, and it appears that the crop function slightly distorts the image (or by default crops down from what the camera initially shows). Further, this doesn’t prevent one from just taking a photo of a photo - catfishing remains easy.
It would be nice if you could upload a few additional (nice looking) images in addition to those taken in the app. You could distinguish between the two by tagging the images taken in the app with lil purple stars or something (ie “verified” images).
But really you should just allow *any* unedited photo taken within the last 2 weeks to a month from one’s own camera. It should be easy to determine: 1. if the photo is actually taken from the phone (and front/back camera vs screenshot) and 2. if the photo is doctored/edited at all - this all by having some code run on the .XML files (idk, it worked in the Depp vs Heard case).
Issue 2: how am I supposed to match with anyone and then meet them at the launch event (per the instructions in the event) if no one shows up within 500 meters of me? 500 meters = 1/3 of a mile - you can only meet if you’re within like 7 blocks of one another. Perhaps I’ve been mislead to thinking it’s match first, then meet at the event? (This is what the app keeps suggesting.) Or is it really meet at an event, then match on the phone? (so… what then is the point of the app?) Or… go to the event, sit on your phone, try to match with people (possibly leave in despair), and then (if successful) meet in person somewhere else? Idk, very confusing on this front. If the former-most, please expand the range of people who appear on the app (e.g. 10-15 miles), or just allow one to look through the list of people interested in attending.
Issue 3: there are only 22 people going to the launch event (including myself). This turnout is lower than my self esteem, and the date is fast approaching.
Issue 4: the personality test is super-sketch. Compatibility/possibility of romance cannot be condensed to 15 questions (and half of these questions simply don’t elicit strong responses / or indicate strong beliefs - I would respond “meh” or “idk lol” to almost half). Frankly it would be better if you went by overlap of interests, or just did several rounds of blind dates (opting into x many blind dates could be some kind of currency within the app). Otherwise, I would have more faith in a clustering / ml algorithm that would group people by their behavior/trends/characteristics within the app (this is relatively easy to do).
Anyway, this otherwise sounds like a very interesting app! Looking forward to the launch.

Exceptional in person event based app!
Super cool that Buzz is partnered with the best places in MPLS like the Loop bar and GRAZE! Great way to get out, mingle, meet new people/partners, while having fun (especially in your 20-30s it can be tough to meet new people) - Can’t wait for the events to come. 🎉
