About

CalcViz is a visual calculus workbench. Type any real-variable function and see its behavior immediately: the curve, its derivatives, its tangent line, its Riemann sums, its 3D surface. Every number comes from a deterministic math engine running on your device - never from a black box. WHY CALCIVIZ Most math apps hand you an answer. CalcViz shows you the mathematics: each derivative step names the rule that produced it, the tangent line moves with your finger, and Riemann rectangles converge while you watch. It is built to teach intuition, not just to check answers. FEATURES - 2D graphs with overlays: plot f together with its first and second derivatives on one canvas, with extrema and inflection points located automatically by the engine. - Symbolic differentiation: power, product, quotient and chain rules applied step by step and typeset with LaTeX, so every line reads like the textbook. - Tangent explorer: drag a point along the curve and read the slope, the derivative value and the tangent line's equation as you move. - Definite integrals: left, right and midpoint Riemann sums side by side, with an animated partition count and the approximation error shown as it shrinks. - 3D surfaces: rotate and zoom z = f(x, y), switch to a contour map, and lay the gradient field over the surface to see the direction of steepest ascent. - Partial derivatives: computed symbolically with respect to x or y. - Case library: over one hundred worked examples across limits, derivatives, integration, Riemann sums, surfaces and partial derivatives - tagged AP Calculus or University, one tap to load, every parameter editable. - Guided tutorials: coach-mark walkthroughs introduce Home and the two workspaces on first run, replayable any time from Settings or the page menu. - History: every function you plot is saved on the device for one-tap reuse - behind the clock on Home, and as a full tab on the iPad. OPTIONAL AI PROBLEM READER (OFF BY DEFAULT) CalcViz can optionally read an English problem written in plain words - "differentiate x squared times sine of x from 0 to pi" - and turn it into the exact formula and limits. The AI never computes anything: it only transcribes, the on-device engine does the mathematics, and the extracted formula is shown to you for checking before anything is calculated. The feature uses your own API key, stays off unless you enable it, and is the only part of the app that can touch the network. Everything else works fully offline. PRIVACY BY DESIGN - No account, no sign-up, no tracking, no analytics. - Your functions, plots, history and saved work never leave the device. - The only network request the app can ever make is the optional AI call, to the endpoint you configure with your own key. WHO IT IS FOR - AP Calculus AB and BC students who want to see what the formulas mean. - University students in Calculus I-III and multivariable calculus. - Instructors looking for a precise, distraction-free classroom demonstrator. - Anyone who has ever wondered what a derivative actually looks like. CalcViz is provided as an educational aid; the in-app disclaimer (Settings - Privacy & Terms) states the scope and limits of its results.
