About

Can This Hurt Me? — Mushroom Edition You found a mushroom. Maybe in the woods, maybe in your yard, maybe somewhere you were not expecting one. Now you want to know if it can hurt you. That is what this app is for. Can This Hurt Me? is a mushroom risk-awareness tool. It uses photos and context to surface possible risk signals and uncertainty, and provides direct access to emergency guidance when needed. It is designed to be direct about what it can see and what it cannot know from photos alone. What the app can do: • Review mushroom photos and user-provided context • Surface possible species matches when the photos provide enough evidence • Flag dangerous lookalike concerns • Explain uncertainty and missing evidence • Provide next steps when the app cannot assess the evidence • Give direct access to Poison Control guidance if something has already been eaten What the app does not do: This app does not confirm a mushroom's identity. It does not determine whether a mushroom is safe to eat. It does not replace expert verification. It does not provide medical advice. No result from this app should be interpreted as permission to eat a mushroom. Wild mushroom identification often requires in-person examination by a qualified expert. Photos alone cannot confirm identity, safety, freshness, contamination, or handling history. If a mushroom has already been eaten: Do not wait for symptoms. Contact Poison Control immediately at 1-800-222-1222 in the United States. If you are outside the United States, contact your local poison control or emergency services. If symptoms are severe, call emergency services. How it works: The app uses AI-assisted visual analysis to process submitted photos and context. AI outputs can be incomplete or incorrect. The app applies additional safety rules, uncertainty handling, and warning logic before showing results. The AI does not grant permission. The app does not grant permission. A note on limitations: Photos may miss details that matter, including smell, texture, bruising, spore print color, and structures hidden below soil. Missing evidence increases uncertainty. Uncertainty is not clearance. Can This Hurt Me? is a risk-awareness tool. It is not a mycologist, a medical device, or a tool for deciding what is safe to eat.
