About
Workspaces and smart bookmarks, built for Safari.
Safari bookmarks always open a new tab. After a day of work, that can mean multiple copies of the same inbox, dashboard, or documentation, with no idea which one you were actually using.
Canopy looks for the tab you already have open. Click a pinned page and it first looks for an existing tab, even if it's in another Safari window. If it finds one, it brings it to the front. Only when no matching tab exists does it open a new one.
Your Branches, folders, pinned pages, and preferences are synchronized through your private iCloud account, so everything is available wherever you use Safari.
BRANCHES
Branches are your workspaces. Create one for Work, Home, Research, Clients, Travel, or anything else that fits the way you browse.
Within each Branch, organize your pinned pages into folders that can be displayed as either a traditional list or a grid of icons.
Pin the page you're currently viewing with a single click as either an exact page or an entire website.
FLEXIBLE MATCHING
Every pinned page can match in one of three ways:
• Page - Match only this exact URL.
• Page (Ignore Query) - Ignore URL query parameters so tracking links and document IDs still match.
• Site - Match any page on the same domain. One pinned page can represent your inbox, dashboard, or favourite website.
MAKE IT YOURS
Customize Canopy to match the way you work.
• List or icon view for every folder
• Drag and drop to organize folders and pinned pages
• Adjustable panel width, height, and icon size
• Custom icons for any pinned page
• Export and import your entire library
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Canopy doesn't require an account, collect analytics, or store your data on its own servers.
Your Branches, folders, pinned pages, preferences, and custom icons live in your own iCloud, not on a Canopy server.
Website icons are downloaded directly from the websites you pin, never through a third-party service.
ONE-TIME SETUP
Safari only allows extensions to access the URLs of tabs on websites you've granted permission for.
To find existing tabs instead of opening duplicates, Canopy requires "Always Allow on Every Website." This allows Canopy to compare the URLs of your open tabs with your pinned pages and switch to the existing tab when there's a match.
URL matching happens locally on your device. Canopy never uploads your browsing data to its own servers because it doesn't have any.
