About

canta listens through your microphone while you sing and tells you right away whether you are sharp or flat. When you finish it does not just hand you a score: it explains what to fix. Free, no third-party ads, no account. You do not need to read music. WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT Most singing apps give you a number and leave you where you started. canta looks for patterns in what you sang and names the cause: • "You are consistently flat" — and where to aim instead • "Big leaps give you more trouble than stepwise notes" • "Your long notes sag towards the end: you are running out of air" • "You are singing the right note, but an octave below" Then you see a note-by-note chart: exactly where you were in tune and where you were not. IT FITS YOUR VOICE First you measure your range by singing from your lowest note to your highest. Every exercise is then placed inside that range, so it never asks for notes you cannot reach. It also tells you which voice type yours resembles: bass, baritone, tenor, contralto, mezzo-soprano or soprano. SHAPED LIKE A REAL LESSON Demanding exercises are never done cold. The routine walks you through the order any teacher uses: breathing, lip trill, humming, the technique of the day, and cooling the voice down at the end. • 3 levels and 11 lessons, in a graded order and all open from the start • 12 vocal exercises: sustained notes, scales, arpeggios, thirds, fifths and octaves, agility, chromatic • 4 diaphragmatic breathing exercises that measure support and airflow • 7 complete melodies, public domain or original, transposed to your voice • Reduced speed at 60% or 80% to study what does not come out yet IT LOOKS AFTER YOUR VOICE The voice is a muscle. canta keeps track of how long you have sung today and suggests stopping when it is time, and taking a day off after several in a row. Points are capped daily on purpose: past that point singing more earns nothing, so nothing pushes you beyond a healthy session. YOUR PROGRESS Day streak, session history, and a comparison between your recent sessions and the ones before, so you can see whether you are actually improving. YOUR AUDIO NEVER LEAVES YOUR PHONE Sound is analyzed on the spot, on your device, and thrown away. Nothing is recorded, nothing is uploaded, canta has no backend of its own, no account, no third-party ads and no trackers. The only links out of the app are two at the bottom of "Your voice": naeku.io to distribute your music and ytrocket.com to promote it, both from the same team as canta. They are a suggestion for the day you want to release something, never a requirement: they open in your browser only if you tap them, they unlock nothing in the app, and canta sends them nothing about you. SETTINGS FOR MUSICIANS • Note names: Do Re Mi, C D E, German (A B H), sargam (Sa Re Ga) or ドレミ • Reference pitch adjustable from 432 to 444 Hz • A guide tone you can switch off to check whether you find the pitch yourself • 13 languages ABOUT SCOPE canta teaches intonation in 12-tone equal temperament, the system of popular singing and Western music. It is not designed for the intervals of Turkish makam or Indian classical music.

The microphone went dead the moment the exercise began. The reference note that plays during the countdown was switching the listening off as it ended, so you sang the whole exercise with the app hearing nothing. Not any more. Thanks to whoever took the trouble to say so in a review instead of just deleting the app.
