Definitive car magazine, adequate app
Car is one of the oldest and the highest quality English language car magazines in the world, with storied columnists, fantastic features and insightful inside news from the industry. The 5* review is for the content. The digital experience is just good enough not to betray the overall brand. Which, to be fair, is a reasonably high standard.

Terrible app
Every month I cannot download the magazine. Such a clunky unused friendly app.
Spectacularly awful app
The login process is ridiculously onerous: credentials are lost each time I login; requesting to reset my password results in the necessary email not being sent; forcing the user to share login credentials is against GDPR and is therefore illegal.
Older magazines from when Car truly was great are not included in the archive,

Cannot read the magazines denied access

I subscribed to this for a few years, after buying occasional copies on line after many years of print copy. Unfortunately the App is slow and clunky at best and at worst answer it is now, I am currently logged out ? Tried logging back on, but it doesn’t recognise my e Mail? Despite that it has taken £34.99 from me over the past few years?….
I have now and reluctantly cancelled my subscription.

I have always loved the detail of Car magazine
Some problems
I can access the magazines via the app but not by clicking on an article in an email & logging on - strange.
When viewing the magazine in digital format, most times swiping from 1 photo to the next brings up the next page/article instead - frustrating.

Update disaster
Don't get me wrong: the mag is still brilliant. The new app, though, is not. Very slow to download new issues, and the only subscription app I have that won't auto-download in the background. Worst of all, it has to reload the app and “dynamic resources” every time you come back to the app. If you leave for two minutes or check another app, CAR makes you start over.
UPDATE Frequently the app decides the newest issue is from 2022, even though I was reading Feb 2024 last night and it was already downloaded. Truly dreadful app.

Possibly the worst App ever… shame
I love Car and receive the magazine every month. I recently upgraded to the digital subscription, but on a mobile phone, I have never come across such a terrible user experience. Constantly being asked to log-in to read articles and being re-routed to a website. Really Car? This experience takes away from the good work the magazine does. Hate it.

Awful and unreliable
I need to use this app periodically on my travels. As soon as I want to use it, it just doesn’t work. I’m always getting Bauer media to fix it but it needs a rethink.
App doesn’t work & support have not responded
Every time I renew my annual subscription the app stops working. Usually the support sort this out. However this time I have received no reply to my support email.
Shame as content is excellent and I have been loyal to ‘Car’ for the last 30 years.

Unable to download even the older version on my iPad. I won’t renew my subscription unless problem fixed ...
Problem with App
Great magazine that I’ve subscribed to for over 30 years, however the latest update on the App now means I cannot use it on my IPad Mini 2 as the IOS is not compatible. Shame, as I have no other way of reading it. Contacted the magazine but no response.
Paying for it but it does not work
Off to talk to car again, one last try before it’s a call to cancel subscription to cease all business with car. And that’s after 20 years plus receiving paper copy. Aim was after time to migrate to digital. But that now off the table.
Absolute rip-off
App doesn’t work, even with a proper subscription through the App Store. After more than 4 months nobody responds to emails about the issues one encounters. A disgrace now, it used be good before. But no thank you, simply does not work.
For many years Best motoring magazine
I havei have been reading Car since the 1970’s and it has the best journalism and photography in my opinionI read the paper edition of Car for many years. The iPad editio adds I have read Car on and off since 1975 and it is still the best.extra interactivity and is so convenient. It is the best motoring magazine by a long way. The quality of the journalism is good, and the photography second to none.

Won’t work!
No matter what I try I can’t get access to the magazine!
Broken by Bauer
Complete library deleted. App written by idiots. Used to take about 3 minutes to download an issue, now about 20 minutes. Yet to be able to open an issue.
Update December 2022. They’ve solved the download issue as now absolutely nothing works. White screen with loading on it, nothing happens. Complete crap, great magazine ruined by Bauer app designers who are incompetent.

App doesn’t work - can’t access content
No matter how good the content, if you cant access it, it’s worthless. When enquiring to Car, I am told to complain to Apple. There is no facility to do so. Not helpful.
