CarbCam: Estimate carbs from a photo
Take a photo of your meal, the AI counts the carbs. Concrete values per ingredient (carbs, kcal, fat, protein, FPU, GI) in seconds: built specifically for people with insulin-treated diabetes.
CORE FEATURES
• Photo analysis: the AI recognizes individual foods and portion sizes, returns carbs/fat/protein/kcal/FPU/GI per component and as a total.
• Plausibility check: the app detects unrealistic AI answers and automatically picks the more trustworthy value.
• Barcode lookup: packaged products are matched against Open Food Facts and USDA FoodData Central.
• Manual correction: every value (carbs, portion, kcal, FPU) can be adjusted.
• History: all meals chronologically with photo, location and note.
• Statistics: carbs/kcal/FPU over time, trends, nutrients per time of day, zoom by week/month/year.
• Similar meals: compare BG curves for the same dishes.
NIGHTSCOUT INTEGRATION (OPTIONAL)
• BG curve under every meal with peak detection, IOB/COB overlay.
• Meal sync as a note treatment (tag "carbcam"): your Loop/AAPS/iAPS calculation remains untouched. Optionally you can also store the carbs directly as a carb entry.
• Works with any Nightscout instance, particularly easy with Managed Nightscout by NS10BE.
CHOICE OF AI PROVIDER
Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, OpenAI (ChatGPT), xAI Grok, Mistral, Zhipu GLM, Microsoft Azure OpenAI, OpenRouter (multi-provider gateway): configurable in settings. Or use your own API key (BYOK), then the analysis runs directly on your account and does not count against the app quota.

• BYOK (your own API key): does not count against the quota.

• The photo is only sent to the AI provider for analysis, NOT stored permanently on our server.
