About

"What kind of kitten will we get next?" Cat Genetics Lab is a breeding simulation built on the real rules of cat genetics. REAL HEREDITY Coat colour, pattern, white markings, fur length, colourpoint and dominant white all pass from parent to kitten exactly as they do in real cats. - Why are calico and tortoiseshell cats almost always female? - How can two black cats have a grey kitten? - How can one gene hide every other coat a cat is carrying? You pick the answers up naturally, just by playing. PREDICT, BREED, CHECK YOUR ANSWER Choose two cats and the prediction strip shows every coat their kitten could have. Call your shot - say which coat will be born. Get it right and the kitten grows up twice as fast. Get it wrong and the odds stay hidden for your next breeding, so it pays to read the genes rather than guess. Every so often a mutation turns up that no prediction saw coming. DEDUCTION MODE Recessive genes a cat is hiding show up as "?". The moment a dilute, solid, longhaired or colourpoint kitten is born, the parents' hidden genes are revealed - the same test cross a real geneticist would use. HOW TO PLAY 1. Pick two cats and predict what will be born 2. Breed them, and see the kitten's coat 3. A rare coat earns a new entry in your collection 4. Kittens grow up in 30 minutes (you get a notification), then they can breed too COMPLETE THE COLLECTION All 122 coats that are genetically possible are waiting to be found, and every undiscovered one comes with a hint. Townspeople send requests you can fill for rewards, and the Foster Board lets you take in a cat whose genes you can see before you decide. Finish the collection and start a new lab, keeping your records and achievements. SEE WHY THE ODDS ARE WHAT THEY ARE Tap any item in the prediction strip to open a Punnett square for each gene, so you can follow the maths behind the percentage. There's also a family tree going back to the grandparents, and a records screen with lifetime stats and 23 achievements - plenty to do after the collection is full. YOU MIGHT LIKE THIS IF - You like cats - You like filling in collections - You've lost time to breeding systems in other games - You're a bit curious about how heredity works Free to play, at your own pace. (A banner ad sits at the bottom of the catalog tab, and a full-screen ad appears now and then while breeding. A one-time purchase removes both. Reward ads are always your choice to watch. There is also a Decoration Pack that only changes how things look - it never changes how the game plays.)

What's New in Cat Genetics Lab

Two daily challenges, and more ways to read the genetics. - Today's Quiz: three questions picked by the date (probability, pick-the-pair, deduction). Everyone solves the same set that day. The answer screen opens the Punnett square so you can see why, and a perfect day earns an Advice Ticket. Share your result as emoji. - Cat Show: match the day's theme and the judge's taste, and enter one of your cats each day. Win and you get a Grow Ticket, plus a ribbon next to that cat's name. - Twins: sometimes two kittens are born at once. Two different coats from the same parents show what "inherited independently" really means. Your prediction counts if either one hits. - Inbreeding: the closer the pair, the more likely a mutation (about 4x for the closest pairs). In exchange the kitten takes longer to grow up. You see this before you breed. - Test cross: what did not appear is a clue too. Every kitten without the recessive coat raises the odds that the parent is not hiding that gene, right on the gene card. - The collection now shows who found each coat and when, and the tab gets a red dot for new finds. - Fixed: the breed button could stop responding, Grow Tickets could disappear, and twins completing two requests at once only showed one thank-you.
