I Used To Love Gem
I used to use Gem all the time, especially to catch up on Coronation Street. But for the last six months at least, the iPhone app will play maybe two minutes of an episode, then freeze. You have to restart, with first watching all the ads again. Cool, if that means I get any further in the episode, but it doesn’t.
I uninstalled and re-installed, which worked once, but doesn’t work anymore. The Smart TV app doesn’t seem to be any better.

Harvesting your bio info
I happily paid for this app for years and felt it was great value. Recently I was kicked out and made to sign back in. But now they want my birthday and my gender and other biographical info or I can’t sign in. I do not accept a taxpayer funded app can use my data to sell me out to advertisers. I pay so I don’t see ads. Why do they need my info. So now Gem is not available equally to all Canadians. Only to the ones willing to let them use their info.

Too many ads in a constant loop
Free means 80% ads on repeat and 20% show. The same ads after every single scene is too much. As a marketer I would never use gem because the non-stop repetition makes me despise the product.

How is it that, all of a sudden, the only way to now watch our national broadcaster is to spend money on a new device? In this economy? What’s wrong with letting the iOs 16 users dowload an version of the app? I’m outraged.
What is going on with the ads
The repetition is awful, a dozen time looking at the same ads in one go.

Too much time is spent on breaks during the National newscast; with No real ads to pay for CBC … so that taxpayers will not have to subsidize the CBC.

When I pause and especially if I try to rewind a bit, it just freezes and I have to restart and scroll forward to where I paused, sometimes that doesn’t even work.
Also it sucks that CBC Gem doesn’t work outside Canada!
Otherwise I love the wide selection of Canadian shows and I hope it continues expanding.

okay so the only reason I downloaded cbc gem was to watch pen15, but it is making me a bit annoyed. There’s an ad pretty much every ten minutes which isn’t too bad because the app is free, but in the ad you have to watch 2 ads, then the next ad break it’s 3 ads, and then the last ad break is 5 ads bro. I am watching a 15 second ad 5 times. Does that make sense lol? The ads are so repetitive and also just annoying. But other than that it’s fine.

Semi-functional Ad Saturated P-aPP
The app sometimes forgets where you stopped your program. If you are in the last 3 minutes, you end up having to watch multiple sets of ads you’ve already seen. Just nuts. Worst streaming app ever.
Why I love cbc
I love CBC because they have shows that I couldn’t watch on any other platform like heartland was my favourite show and still is and I was so mad when I couldn’t watch it on the platform I used to watch it on but then everybody told me it was on CBC when I thought I lost my favourite TV show, but it was free and I could watch you whenever I wanted at home so that’s why I love CBC Gem
