Top reviews

Not worth Much

The same stories sit stagnantly for days on end. No depth to stories. “News” stories are more similar to editorials versus unbiased reporting. Unfortunately, there isn’t a whole lot of competition in Idaho, so we’re stuck with it.

Finally brought back dark mode

It’s about time. Also I noticed none of the one star reviews I left were registered.

Landscape mode

app doesn’t work in landscape mode?

Bring back dark mode.

App is great but after the new update it doesn’t have dark mode. An essential for weary eyes.

Sports

Why do you not have sports? After all the games etc. not one mention. Find this on local stations here. They don’t report any sports. ???

Good!

CBS Idaho 2 shows you a lot of the other news, which is really nice! Great news app.!

Stick to local news

I agree with other reviewers. Please stick to state and local news - or at least remain regional. I get my national and world news on other apps and don’t need to see duplicate articles. Everything else is great though. Keep up the good work.

Need landscape view

Pretty much unusable on an iPad without landscape view.

Not good for IPads

During the development of this app you forgot to have the ability to rotate to accommodate iPads

Blank paragraphs

All was well until the last update. I get cover stories, after I try to open the cover picture is there, but no paragraphs. Just black.

Update newsfeed more frequently

The app runs smooth, all features function properly. The issue is that the newsfeed is not updated as frequently as the competition, and stories are not updated in a timely manner or even at all in some cases.

No sound.

The videos don’t have sound, no volume control, so it makes the videos worthless. Layout and performance is solid otherwise, articles are easy to navigate and read, but without sound it makes a good app useless.

Needs work

Content aside...this app has duplicate articles taking up scrolling space and freezes or crashes on a daily basis. Thought this was because I was using an iPhone 6, but upgraded to the 8 plus and still the bugs remain.

WTHeck

It has taken me five minutes to open application.

Great!

Great app to keep up on the local news! Thanks!

Response from developer

Hi - Thanks for letting us know about the update issue. We have corrected the problem and I would ask that you delete the current version from your device and install the latest. Please give that a try and let me know how it does for you. Jeff

Observations

As this is a local station, I turn to you for local news. I travel 100% for work so it's especially important to me and I appreciate it very much.

I prefer local news in the main feed. Weird or sad stuff from other parts of the country belong in national news, in my opinion. Also, the sports section has not been updated in a long time: Ezekiel Elliot being suspended is not relevant to Boise, nor is it current.

Thanks!

Hi - Thanks for your kind words and your thoughtful observations. I will share them with the news team and I do agree that some of the content is quite dated. Jeff

Mobile app. For kboi- tv

Have not been able to access for 5 days. iPhone. App not listed in App Store. Link to app on website does nothing.

Response from developer

Hi - Thanks for reporting the problem. Please delete the version that you have on your device and try to do a fresh install from the app store and let me know how that works for you. Thanks again, Jeff

Previous version was so much better, but recently improved

Really wish I had the old version back. The new version doesn't seem to have as many stories. The organization of stories isn't as good; for example, no "technology" category. Harder to navigate from category to category. Lists of stories have big icons next to them, so not as many display. Lists have only the headline, and no body text, so it's harder to tell whether I want to read a story or not. Can only be read on my iPad in landscape mode. I'll say it again -- I really wish I had the old version back.

Edit and update: This just keeps getting worse. For a few weeks, the app couldn't justify text properly and all the stories ran off the page. That's fixed now, but the new "feature" is that swiping to a news story sometimes automatically opens Safari with photos or whatever. If I wanted to see news in Safari, I would be there, but I don't, so please quit doing that. It just means that I have to click to close the tab, then double click the button to get to my open apps, then get back to the news app. It makes it very difficult to read the news while I'm shaving.

Update 01/13/2017
Since my previous update, the app had gone back to its ridiculous formatting which ran stories off the right-hand side of the screen on my iPad, making the app more of a puzzle than a news source. So it was with some excitement that I just updated it to the latest and greatest version. The good new is that no text runs off the edge of the screen! The bad news is that this is because there is no text, just the photo and headline. C'mon, KBOI, have some self-respect. You used to have the best news app in the Treasure Valley, but your app has been useless now going on a couple years. The reason I'm so frustrated with this app is that I still remember what once was, and I'm embarrassed that you can't find a competent software company that tests your app before it is released. Still just one star, not worth the bandwidth to update.

Update 01/16/17
Today's hotfix was great, and I don't mean that in a sarcastic way. The text now flows nicely down the screen, so everything is readable. Still to fix is the download for the political news, which has its most recent item dated January 3. It seems unlikely that KBOI would be unaware of several newsworthy events that have occurred since that time, so I suspect something is wrong with the push. Still, much, much improved and I am increasing my rating from one star to three in anticipation of further improvements on what was once the Treasure Valley's best news app.

Not so good yet!

Needs some work.

Poorly designed

This app covers the photo in the story with the headline text. This is annoying when the photo is of a wanted criminal or a missing person. Users of this app will be of no help in finding that person, because their face is obscured by text. I have left this feedback wherever possible for months, but KBOI TV does not care about it. Don't bother with this, get the other local news app.
