Fantastic Game
Celestial Assault is one of the best phone games I’ve ever played. The graphics are phenomenal, the gameplay is excellent, and the challenges while hard are still fair to the player. Your ship’s upgrade system is simple to understand, and provides an easy method to track your progress. All this, combined with at least six hours of gameplay, make Celestial Assault an easy five star.
If you’ve just downloaded this game and think it’s a little slow - give it time. Yes, the first two levels are very slow, and you begin with weak starting weapons. But isn’t that the point? The first levels are supposed to be slow, so you can learn how to play the game. But once you kill that first boss, the difficulty noticeably ramps up. It’s similar to Faster than Light (FTL) in how the level structure is organized and how your ship is upgraded. Eventually your starting weapons will need to be replaced with something far more powerful as you progress.
Overall, it’s a phenomenal game for any sci-fi fans out there. You can play for hours, or just when you need some time to kill. It’s fun no matter what.

Like Gradius? You will like this great game! It allows for RPG style leveling via an exp system and customizing your ship by buying your ships weapon systems with earned gold! Great mix of shooting and RPG strategy! FUN!

I found this game…
…while I was looking for Gradius. The game is pretty basic in regards to the fact it's a side scroll shooter but the building up of your ship makes this addictive. I'm actually a bit embarrassed about how much time I've actually spent playing this game. More then any of my systems.

Short term fun
I've got to say this game is really fun. Harkening back to Gradius. However after only 3 hours (a few days) of gameplay I'd maxed out my levels and could grow no further that way without purchasing, with actual cash, several items several times over. Why not just put a single price tag on the game? So if you're looking for a handful of hours of fun this is for you. Suppose you could keep replaying the same 12 levels and earning gold/upgrading... I love this game but would prefer to just buy it one time. Not keep purchasing ability to increase levels.

1st shooter ive played to really advance the gameplay by giving it legitimate rpg style stats, upgrades, and non linear play. You won't even meet the first boss until you've played a good 5 hours. This is easily my fav. iPhone shooter ( not an fps but a real side scrolling shooter for fans of gamings purist genre). Imagine if Trevor Mcfur for the jaguar had great play mechanics and a deep rpg system of advancement and you get celestial assault.

this game is addicting!!
got even better after updating it to fit the full iPhone 5 screen.. you just need to be patient in saving gold to buy weapon upgrades... I suggest you put most of your stat points to fortune first, then just keep playing low levels till you are able to buy weapon upgrades...
I'm sorry to give it the first negative review...
but it keeps crashing in the tutorial. So I tried skipping it but it crashed while loading a mission. How do I fix it?

Brilliant!!
This is one of the few side scrollers that does it right. Unlike most games that feature an inventory and fensible items, the currency in this game never loses its value, there is always a better weapon to get!

This is a very fun, addicting game. Can get a little tough to control at time in the farther rounds but the concept of the game is awesome overall I love it!!

Wow this game is fantastic
Great game play on the iPad. Retro look and feel. Lots of options. Worth the money to buy additional weapons. Really really fun to play. I'm hooked.
