User reviews

Good intent, but still a work in progress.

Great concept, but there are some issues like if you’re a lifelong virgin you cannot designate that. They only allow you to mark so many years. It seems designed more for people that are restarting waiting for marriage and divorced and widowed people looking to remarry and not wanting to trench through the hookup culture mess you find on most other dating apps and in real life.

They are just getting started, so the community is very small. Not a lot of diversity either. There’s also a lot of divorced and older people that have already been in past relationships. As a younger virgin, I just wasn’t impressed.

I do love all of the Bible verses they show. Lots of good scripture for anyone on this journey!

Response from developer

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such detailed feedback—and we’re glad you’re enjoying the daily scripture! You raise a fantastic point about tracking longer commitments. We’re excited to share that in our latest update, you can now set your Celibacy/Abstinence timeframe for up to 50 years! As a growing platform, we’re continuously working to build a diverse community that supports everyone at every stage of their journey—whether lifelong virgins or those recommitting later in life. We really appreciate your patience and input as we expand!

Great Idea. A Few Suggestions…

Celibacy isn’t always tied to religion or spirituality. It is a disciplined choice. Primary profile questions such as “How do you feel about Jesus?” make broad assumptions and limit your reach. I recommend maintaining a focus on celibacy/abstinence…not religion.

Response from developer

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. You raise a great point—celibacy/abstinence is a disciplined choice for many reasons, not just religious ones. While this is how our onboarding is currently structured, we really appreciate you pointing out how these questions can feel limiting. We’ll definitely keep your feedback in mind as we evaluate potential updates to the app in the future.

Best intentions

Time spent fine tuning details. Shows the integrity of best intentions, of the use of this app…

Decided to try it just to see

I was not impressed. Literally everyone on the app is, at least, 800 miles away. And it was only two profiles I saw that were under 1,000 miles away. This was despite setting my area to within 120 miles. While I know celibacy and being abstinent is often connected with being religious, that’s not the case for me. I’m not religious, at all, and I saw exactly 3 people who weren’t religious, so this is basically Christian mingle, lol. One of the “non religious” people still said they attended church, though, so that was interesting. Either way, there’s not enough people, people are too far away, and everyone is religious. If you are or you don’t mind it, then this might be the place for you. I actually was going to give it 3 stars because it’s not the worst app and I could see the potential, but then I decided to delete my account, since I wasn’t interested. The app kept giving me “something went wrong” errors over the two days I was on it (I had swiped through everyone by then to give you an idea of how few people are on it), so I should have known. I went to delete and it told me I didn’t have permission to delete, so I couldn’t delete. I’m not even sure the app is set up correctly, so 1 star. 😂

Then I read the developer’s responses on another rating… that weird defensiveness is another reason to avoid this app. We are not the creators of the app. We did not force you to make it or put it up. It’s not our fault there aren’t many people on it. We’re giving a review on what we saw and experienced, not on potential or how it might be in a year from now. Being upset that people give you a real review and then say they’re trying to ruin your reputation by giving an honest review… wooo chile. Yeah, none of this is for me. Good luck, though.

Response from developer

Thank you for taking the time to write such detailed and honest feedback. You’re completely right—experiencing a small user pool, distance issues, and an error when trying to delete your account is frustrating, and that's not the experience we want for anyone. We appreciate your perspective on the mix of religious vs. non-religious profiles, as well as the technical issue with account deletion. We’re taking a close look at that bug to make sure account deletion works smoothly for everyone. We appreciate you giving the app a try and wish you the absolute best on your journey!

This app has been needed.

What’s the point of dating people who are still sexually active? This app is a game changer and was needed because the other hookup culture type apps are a revolving door for of people chasing pleasure to fulfill their emptiness. It’s a new app but I see great things for Celibate in the future!
