About
Check by Check is a family tool for tracking tasks and building habits away from the screen. Check-ins happen on paper. The phone appears only to print and, now and then, to scan.
Print a weekly check-in sheet. Put it on the fridge, the wall, or the desk. When a child finishes a task, they add a check—no phone needed on ordinary days. A parent scans the sheet, points go in automatically, and they can be redeemed for rewards the family already agreed on.
How it works
Choose tasks and family members, then create one weekly sheet with a QR code.
Print it on A4, or share the PDF, and put it where a child can see it at a glance.
When something is done, mark it with a pen. No unlocking a phone. No staring at a screen.
After the week, a parent opens the scanner, aims at the sheet, and that’s it. Points go in automatically. Children do not need the phone day to day.
Who it’s for
If your home is spending its energy on these moments, Check by Check was made for that.
Promises that never land.
Homework, piano, packing the bag, an earlier bedtime: they agree in the room, then forget the moment they walk away. Bring it up, and they feel watched. Don’t, and the agreement turns into empty words.
Nagging becomes the household language.
“Did you do it?” several times a day. What children hear is only what is unfinished, not what they already did. The most common conversation becomes checking, explaining, and snapping.
Rewards that cannot be counted.
“If this week goes well, we’ll go out once” easily becomes two different stories: the child thinks they did it; the parent thinks they didn’t stick with it. The reward fades away, and the next agreement is harder to trust.
Habit apps that add more screen time.
You wanted less phone, then check-in still means unlock, tap, and watch a streak. Miss one day and it feels like failure. Children fear breaking the chain; parents grow anxious with them.
Harder still with more than one child.
The same standard is hard to keep clear. Who did what, who missed what—it all lives in a parent’s head. Compare the kids, and a fight is close.
Check by Check turns the agreement into a weekly sheet you can see: children keep it with a pen; parents do not have to ask every day. One scan records the score and the change. Rewards follow what the family already said. The argument shifts from “Did you do it?” to “What got done this week?”
How it’s different from ordinary habit apps
Most habit apps ask you to open the phone every day and tap each item. Check by Check reverses that: the check-in happens on paper; the phone only keeps the record. Children stay with the task, instead of being pulled toward a screen.
Points and rewards
Finish tasks, earn points, and redeem them for rewards the family already agreed on. You set the points. There is no leaderboard, and no comparing whose score is higher.
Growth record
After a scan, you can see what was finished and how it is changing. Achievements are about staying with it and getting better—not scanning again and again for extra counts, and not ranking anyone by raw points.
