International support

The new update makes it super easy to read all kinds of international documents. This is huge. Perfect to validate foreign visitors without needing to be an expert in what a valid passport or ID from another country is supposed to look like! Thanks for this!

After 28 hours of issues the app finally fixed itself. Took back my low rating and update with this rating.

I'm sorry Check ID didn't work the way you needed it to — that's frustrating, and I understand wanting your money back. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled directly by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, and they're generally quick to process. Separately, I'd love to understand what went wrong with scanning so I can improve it. Many scan issues come down to lighting, glare, or a specific ID type the app didn't recognize, and those are things I can fix or work around if I know about them. If you're open to sharing details, the Feedback form inside the app (Settings → Feedback) or the form at checkidapp.com goes straight to me. Suggestions are always welcome.

Inaccurate

Tested on known fakes and showed they were legit. Very disappointing.

Not for Alberta

This app will either accept of reject the age verification for Alberta drivers licenses but that’s it and won’t display any data or store it.

Dear George, This is in fact the purpose of the app. Check ID will let you know what’s encoded inside the PDF417 barcode. The app does not store any data on purpose—this is a privacy feature. Check ID also does not send any data off of your phone or use any third party analytics service. It is completely private. Check ID works as designed. Please be reach out in the future if you have any confusion.

New update is horrible

The app is almost useless. Barely works. Not sure why you decided to change your API but it simply won’t scan.

This customer contacted support regarding her confusion with what the app does. After multiple emails, we suggested contacting Apple Support to request a refund for her mistake. The app functions exactly as designed.

Am I Missing something?

Why does it only work in portrait mode?

Otherwise simple if you are just checking age.

Version 2.0 just released, and it now works in all orientations on iPad! It’s a free update, but it requires iOS 11. Hope this helps!

Check ID is just a one time upfront fee — no monthly or other in app purchases! Once you buy it, it will just work!

Worked good but limited after scan

If you only need a name on a list after having extracted the driver's license info -- it's 5 stars for my bar code Washington DL. But if you want the detailed info to save for a file or a email or build a csv spreadsheet there wasn't an option. I have sent support a question for this feature. Hopefully it can be added. But simple fast and easy for what it does right now.

Really need that exportability feature. Thx.j

Check ID works by translating the 2D PDF 417 barcode on the back of most driver's licenses and identification cards. Everyone else is using Check ID successfully to scan barcodes. Please contact support@checkidapp.com if you need assistance.

Great start!

This app is definitely on the right track. The scanning is lightning fast with all the real IDs I've scanned, and slower or non scanning with some of the fakes, which gives you a convenient second to eyeball the patron. The most important thing to add soon is an alert for expired IDs. That is a huge problem for clubs/bars. Then I'd like to see different settings for age ranges & gender. For example one club I worked at allowed 18+ for girls and 21+ for guys. If I could hear a different tone for girls in that range, and set a different color for them to know quickly to draw Xs on their hands. Overall, this app is fantastic and I hope to watch it and it's developers grow and flourish for finally offering an app like this at a reasonable price.

I'm sorry the app was crashing on you — that's the worst kind of bug to run into. This review is from a while back, and Check ID has been rebuilt and updated many times since then with major stability improvements, so I'd be hopeful that whatever was causing the crashes is long behind us. Just what we needed

This app is so much better than the clunky boxes we used to use. I check hundreds of IDs a day and this app is definitely worth the money. It's super fast and never has scanning issues. And it has already been updated to iOS 8/iPhone 6!
