Sucks
Cool but also frustrating limits
I’ve enjoyed playing this chess game because of all the avatars and chess sets you can unlock, mix and match, create your own look etc. However I’ve now bumped into some sort of limit and can no longer unlock the remaining few characters such as the Warlock for example.
The computer play is pretty poor, it should have better calibrated levels as you progress, as on chess.com, the easy levels are really stupid and it would be better if the gameplay adjusted to match around the player’s ELO, ie: -200, 0, +200.
The post-game analysis options are also limited, in particular missing the “show me” feature in chess.com which explains why a move may be good (or poor).
Overall, whilst this is a more fun & appealing game, it has limitations that the developers could easily improve on.

It is the best way to get kids interested in playing board games, versing someone and learning you can not win all the time.

App is not Syncing
For some reason, the app is not syncing and continues to ‘clock’ or spin when attempting to open. I have deleted the app, re-add the app. Then the app will load, however, when trying to sync my gamer ID and pull in all my data, the app continues to ‘clock’ and never syncs and pulls in the data related to my gamer ID. Fun app, until this started happening. Please fix.

Stopped Working on iPad
The app was working fine for iPad up until 23 June 2026. Now it hangs indefinitely when opening the app. If I delete and reinstall the app, I’m able to play but cannot connect with Game Center to retrieve my progress. Attempting the connection with Game Center also hangs indefinitely, but worked prior to 23 June. Please address this.

Game Center ID stopped working
It was working well for a month but now it won’t let me use my Game Center ID. I push the allow button and it hangs forever. This just started happening June 23. Before today, I could allow use of my Game Center ID just fine. Please help.

Very fun
Not much to say really. There’s fun puzzles to riddle out and potentially help you learn new strategies and ways to play. My sole complaint is actually in visuals rather than gameplay. I absolutely hate that piece movements by the opponents has zero animation. Literally just an instant one frame snap. This is quite terrible because without any animation or hint of what piece is about to move you can easily miss the opponent’s move simply by blinking your eyes when it happens. You just have to remember to memorize everything on the board before you make your own move so you can figure out what piece your opponent magically teleported to the next spot.

Maddening
Nothing worse than moving a pawn forward two spaces and this stupid game glitching and only moving it forward one which can severely screw up a strategy. Has happened countless times. Please fix this issue!

Nice app but the “partial gamification” problematic
I have been getting back into playing chess and this app has been helpful. However, when I started I did not understand how important “jewels” were am now short of them. Once behind on this the Arcade version provides only very slow ways to get them back, restricting access to the training exercises. I suspect there are more ways to overcome this issue in the non-Arcade version. A better way to handle this would be nice.

I love it so much it teaches you how to play chess it is one of the best games I’ve ever played. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to play or learn chess

I liked the reward system this app has, but there’s a few things I see wrong with it. First, the evaluation engine the app uses frequently misjudges positions. I’ve noticed that certain brilliant moves evaluated by Stockfish will sometimes show as a blunder or an inaccuracy on chess universe’s engine. Second, the fact that you have to use a in game currency to look at best moves in game review is absolute trash. You’re telling me that I have to open another app (a superior app) just to see my game review? Terrible. Third, if you’re in the middle of a game and have to open another app to respond to a text or something, you lose the game because the app bugs out if you switch apps. Cute decorations and stuff, but yeah, just use lichess or chess.com because they do what this app does, except 10x better for free.

Good game but with technical issues
Game is good but has a horrible reconnection issue where if you read a message or other notification during the game you can’t continue playing. 5 stars if that gets fixed.
Non stop Cheating
Rampant cheating in this game. Just look at the 1000 or lower rated players. I’ve analyzed their games and they are playing 1900+ level moves. This game is overrun with cheaters. Try it yourself and see. It’s very very easy to analyze the cheating.
Great for Fun, to Learn, Anything Chess!
Chess universe makes chess fun with a lot to do in the game. You can play vs others, against AI’s, fill collections, customize the board and your king, and other nice features with nothing truly wrong with the game.
Games freeze up and force you to resign
Multiple times now games have frozen up where my opponent’s clock is not running but it’s their turn and I can’t do anything except quit the game which then gets counted as a loss.
