Excellence

The stories are in depth and beautifully written. The sports section is one of the best in the country. It is up-to-date and even has West Coast scores before the West Coast papers published them. Fantastic app.

Broken push notifications

When I try to access stories highlighted in the app’s push notifications, I am never able to get to the specific stories, and this is unacceptable!

Scrolling broken on iPad

What a joke. When looking at the main page that shows all the articles, scrolling down works fine. But try scrolling back up, and it goes up a little bit then jumps back down. Literally every time you scroll up, it jumps back down the same amount. Makes it effectively impossible to scroll up. A bad joke of an app.

Excellent app!

Love this news app. Definitely prefer it over the Tribune which is more right leaning

Widget please

Love the app. Needs a widget.

Bug was fixed

The bug below has been fixed.

A couple weeks ago the app updated. It still shows an small image of the current front page, but when you click to read it you are sent to a login page with nothing on it except the words "Log in". Nowhere to type our login info, and nothing to click.

Great paper

Easy to read

Great way to stay informed

The app was buggy at first but my experience has improved! I love using it to keep up with daily news - I don’t have to search online or doom scroll to find out what’s going on in Chicago.

Doesn’t work.

Since the Sun Times recently updated the e-paper function you can only read an e-paper on a browser. The app is useless.

Revised: App seems to be working as expected. Overall, it’s ok and provides an electronic version of the daily paper, exactly what it’s supposed to do.

A Great Improvement

Great improvement over the S-T’s former app, which was just a grid of boxes with truncated headlines. I really appreciate being able to see the actual print edition layouts which provide a kind of editorial voice in their own right. I find the print ads comforting in the sense that they make money for the paper without injecting unclosable videos into your reading experience.

Dark Mode

Can you please include a dark mode option- it’s so bright!

Could Be Better

The app has been improved, but it’s very buggy and is as smooth as a 10 year old Android device. I encourage CST to spend the money necessary to polish the app, even if it means a nominal subscription fee to users.

Useless share functionality

Share should just copy the link, not a useless block of text and no link.

No way to increase headline type size

This app is worthless if you have vision problems. (No, I don't want to use Apple visual accessibility tools. They are frustrating to use!) There should be a function to increase the font size for headlines & article summations. Is the Sun-Times afraid it will mess up their layout? Or detract from their ANNOYING ads (which there is NO WAY to pay to turn off.) Ugh. If you're struggling to get readers, why do this? Older people tend to be the biggest demographic that read newspapers. Why didn't the Sun-Times think about them first when they were designing the app?

Deeply Upset About My Support

I became a supporter of the CST in order to read the journalism on the iOS app. However, I can’t open a single edition or article. The app says I don’t have a subscription even when I have an active subscription as a supporter.

Response from developer

We're sorry you've been disappointed with the app. Please contact us through the app under Settings (at the top right corner) > Contact so we can diagnose the issue and improve your experience. You can also reach us at customerservice@suntimes.com and (888) 848-4637.

Buggy and Inoperable

A disaster. Will not open pages so stories can be read. An outrageous piece of junk.

Great for news, crappy for social sharing

Tried to share a link from a story to Facebook Messenger; app sent just the photo, or the photo combined with some weird text. You should fix this. I had to use my browser to grab a shareable link.

Forced App Switch

The newspaper is getting rid of the app my wife and I previously used, only for the new app to be a buggy mess that can’t stay open for more than 10 seconds without crashing. I want the old app back.

Trash

App puts you in a never ending loop of sending you a login email then takes you to the Sun Times website every time you attempt to login on the app. There is no way to read the paper on the app. What’s the point?

Broken app

Totally broken app. Login page sends you an email where it then opens the site in a separate browser, the app does nothing.
