Tone colors ?
I know it’s been a while since these have been updated, but I really use them all the time. I would pay almost anything for a similar app that lets you do tone colors or leave tone markings in. I’m familiar enough to remove many words, but I’m unsure of the tone, so if I want to use this in any official capacity, I have to put the words back in or just use straight pinyin, which is more confusing to me now. An option where you can add/remove the definition, pinyin, and tones would be perfect and I would pay a lot for it.

Love it!
Love the option to gradually get rid of the English and pinyin on words you already know, helps you focus on the characters you still need to learn while being able to take the training wheels off the characters you’re already familiar with. Recently started learning Cantonese, so I wish it had the option for Cantonese Yale as well, that would be an awesome feature. But for learning Mandarin, this app is fantastic.

Bookmarks please.
It has serious difficulty loading longer epubs.
Besides the technical difficulty It does well enough for reading short articles. I really like the pinyin annotations as well as how quickly dictionary lookup works.
However the app is not suitable for reading novels. It forgets your place in the book when it closes and does not have bookmarks.
It seems the developer had a good idea for what he wanted to make, but did not bother making a complete app.

FYI In the songbook the song #89 got switched to song #30 otherwise I love the app!
Won’t let me turn off pinyin
I had to reinstall this program onto my iPad and now it will not let me customize how the definitions and pinyin show up. Defeats the purpose of the program as I could use other 3 line apps. Not sur what the issue is. I have already tried reinstalling it twice so that isn’t the issue.
Great App
This app is an essential part of meeting preparation! My character learning has greatly improved since i started using this app. I have recommended this app to many friends. One thing, I wish that there could be a toggle for tone marks. An option where one could keep the tone marks visible for selected words.

Needs more support
Very rough, but does as advertised with epub files. Needs more developer support for quality of life and polish. The translation is very rough and could be better
Apple update problems
I updated my iPad and now I cannot download any ePubs into the app. How do I fix this problem?
I’m clueless
I bought the app but cannot seem to understand how it works. I am confused with the whole “open in... feature” the app continually mentions. Please help me understand what an ePub is.
Useful and Reliable
A very useful and reliable app for Chinese learners!
It does everything as advertised. Also the text converts to 3 lines within seconds. Works great both in Traditional and Simplified characters. I definitely recommend it because it helps you improve your knowledge of Chinese characters. Great for people who intend to translate a publication from characters but also don’t want to rely too much in pinyin.

Better text flow? Skip common characters?
This could be great if it could format the text better for readability and if it could be set to not annotate the most common 3-5k characters. Great idea though!
Not good for Traditional text
All the Traditional characters are marked as "unknown". You can manually add the pinyin and definitions, but that's very time consuming.

Where have you been all my life??
I’ve been looking for something exactly like this for a very long time. Yes, Pleco has an ePub reader, but you have to tap on words you don’t know to get a definition/pinyin. Nothing like this. If you are trying to increase your literacy in Chinese by reading material that YOU CHOOSE rather than uninteresting (IMO) “stories” in similar apps, this is the app for you. If you use it consistently, it will grow along with you like no other app.
Granted, the process of learning raw characters is probably better suited to other methods such as flash cards, writing, and MEMRISE. But this is a perfect compliment to those methods.
I give it 4 stars because the app lacks a certain UI polish. But it does everything as advertised.
REQUEST: for those of us who are intermediate and up, it would be nice to start off assuming all characters are KNOWN and THEN be able to indicate those that are UNKNOWN. Otherwise it takes a loooong time to indicate all the characters/words you already know. iCloud syncing would be great too so I can use seamlessly on my iPhone and iPad.

Just amazing
If you want to learn Chinese characters, this is an app one could have only wished for and never believed would have. After importing an ePub in characters, you teach the app what words you know and it remembers across publications. So you can have a paragraph with characters only for what you indicated you knew, with character-pinyin if you know the word but not clear on character, and character-pinyin-English if need the full aid. All mixed together. And as you learn you keep updating. Amazing tool. Thank you! Would pay more than a dollar for it. Thank you!

essential in my study flow
Increasing rating to four stars. Able to reliably export PDF of characters along with Pinyin for the characters that I did not know how to pronounce into a PDF annotation app. Developer addressed all of my feedback except selection of definition. Will increase to 5 stars when able to easily choose a particular CC-CEDICT entry for display rather than the first entry in the list of definitions.

Thanks for the thorough review. I have also noticed it is slower on older devices. It works acceptable on my iPad 2, but it is very fast on an iPhone 7. I would like to respond to some of your points: 1. On my device, I was able to select "Never Visible", but I did notice it was slower to respond. I will look in to this. 2. One possible reason for this is: The document was annotated, then cached, and then the words were marked as known. On loading that document again, the cached version will show even though the words are now known. To fix this, just re-annotate the document with the 3 line button. 3. Export to PDF is possible in iOS 10 and greater. Search "iOS print to pdf". 4. The file system in iOS 11 is very new and has not been fully tested. Exporting and importing from Google Drive has been tested. 5. Not sure what is happening here. Feel free to contact me directly jonmhargett at gmail.com.

Very helpful
It would be helpful to be able to add to the dictionary within the app without loading an ePub.

I can’t figure out how to highlight or underline while preparing for meetings. Please help.
Needs Improvement
This app has a lot of potential in learning Chinese. However, i find that even if you load an ePub that uses Traditional Chinese characters, 3lines still convert it to Simplified Characters. It would be a nice improvement if you have an option to use either traditional or simplified characters.
But so far, it is a good app.
