About

Chipmunk copies photos, video, audio and other files from a camera card to an external drive, to your iPhone or iPad, or to iCloud Drive. Every file that finishes copying is read back and compared to what Chipmunk read from the card. Then Chipmunk remembers what it has backed up. No laptop required. ON THE ROAD, NO LAPTOP Shooting away from the studio and don't want to carry a laptop? Got an iPhone? An iPad? Chipmunk is about to become your best friend. Plug in a card reader, choose your card, choose where it goes, and tap Copy. By the time you're packing up, the day's work is on a second drive. WHAT YOU NEED • An SD card reader that works with your iPhone or iPad. Chipmunk reads the card through the Files app. • To back up to an external drive, you need to connect the card and the drive at the same time. That means a device with two USB ports, or a card reader with a pass-through USB port for the drive. • No second port? Back up to your device's own storage or to iCloud Drive instead. COPY ONLY. THE CARD IS NEVER CHANGED. Chipmunk never writes to, moves or deletes anything on your card. It copies. You decide when to erase the card. EVERY FILE IS CHECKED Each file is copied to a temporary name, flushed to the drive, then read back from the destination and compared to what Chipmunk read from the card. It only takes its final name after that. Chipmunk never overwrites a file that is already there. If a name is taken, the copy gets a numbered suffix. IT REMEMBERS Plug in the same card tomorrow and Chipmunk offers only what's new. Delete a file from the drive and Chipmunk notices and copies it again. It looks at what is actually in your folder, not just what it remembers. ORGANIZED AS IT GOES Choose how photos and videos are filed inside your backup folder: by type then date, by date then type, by date only, or all in one folder. Dates come from the file dates on the card. Audio and other files keep their original folders. CHOOSE WHAT TO COPY RAW, JPEG, HEIF, other photo formats, video and audio each have their own switch. Short on time? Copy only the photos. Files Chipmunk doesn't recognize are copied as Other files in their original folders, so camera data isn't left behind. BUILT FOR PEOPLE WHO MAKE THINGS Photographers, videographers, drone pilots and field recorders. Made for iPhone and iPad, with Light, Dark and System appearance. No account. No ads. No tracking. No subscription. Chipmunk collects nothing and sends nothing off your device. GOOD TO KNOW • iOS doesn't let apps see connected cards on their own. You choose your card in Files once, and Chipmunk remembers it. • Chipmunk backs up one card at a time. • The destination drive must be one your device can write to, such as APFS or exFAT. Drives formatted FAT32 can't hold files of 4 GB or more. Chipmunk tells you which files are affected. • If a cable is pulled mid-copy, run the backup again and Chipmunk picks up what's missing. • AVCHD folders are not supported in this version. Requires iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later. From Ochre — handcrafted software for people who make things.
