Lose a life even after watching the ad????

I’ve played several of these types of games before. The deal usually is when you run out of moves, you can opt to watch an ad, get 3 more moves and if you win, advance to the next level. This game is similar EXCEPT that they deduct a life even if you advance. Never seen that before and it seems kind of like a cheap move. Good game otherwise.
