About

Chronolyze turns your iPhone into a precision timegrapher for mechanical watches. Rest your watch against the microphone and watch the classic paper-tape trace draw itself — no bench equipment, no clip-on sensors. Every mechanical watch tells you how healthy it is through its ticking. Chronolyze listens to the escapement's impulses and measures the timing between them with sub-millisecond precision. LIVE MEASUREMENT • Rate in seconds per day — is your watch running fast or slow? • Beat error in milliseconds — is the balance swinging symmetrically? • Amplitude in degrees — how much power reaches the balance wheel? • Automatic beat-rate detection from 12,000 to 36,000 bph • Classic two-line timegrapher trace: slope shows rate, gap shows beat error • Signal-quality meter so you know when to trust the numbers POSITIONAL TEST Measure in the six regulation positions — dial up, dial down, crown up, down, left, right — with a guided workflow. The positional variation (Δ) is the number a watchmaker regulates against: Chronolyze computes it and tells you what it means. MAGNETIZATION CHECK A suddenly fast watch is usually a magnetized hairspring. Chronolyze uses your iPhone's magnetometer to detect it in seconds, before you pay for a service you don't need. WATCH COLLECTION Keep a watch box in your pocket: per-watch lift angle and beat rate, full measurement history, saved positional runs, and re-viewable traces for every session. BUILT FOR WATCH PEOPLE • Set the lift angle per caliber for accurate amplitude (default 52°) • Pin a nominal beat rate for unusual movements • Dark, instrument-grade interface with iOS 26 Liquid Glass design • Demo movement mode so you can explore every feature without a watch • An animated escapement in Settings that shows exactly what you're hearing WHAT YOU NEED A quiet room and a mechanical watch (hand-wound or automatic). Quartz watches don't tick the same way and aren't supported. For best results, rest the watch case directly against the bottom edge of the phone. Whether you're regulating your own movements, checking a vintage find before you buy, or just curious how your daily wearer is doing — Chronolyze gives you watchmaker-grade numbers from the phone already in your pocket.

What's New in Chronolyze

1.1.0

Movement Health, shareable report cards, and plain-English explanations of every reading. • Movement Health — a single verdict on your watch: Healthy, Minor issues, or Needs attention, rolled up from rate, beat error, amplitude, and stability • The verdict names the reading holding it back, so you know exactly where to look • Share a report card with the trace, all four readings, and the verdict — send it to your watchmaker, post it to a forum, or save it to Photos • New "What the Numbers Mean" section in How To: what rate, beat error, amplitude, beat rate, and rate stability actually tell you, and what a healthy value looks like
