Controller support

Not a terrible version of the old classic but no option to use a controller? Makes it tricky to play on larger iPads. Seems a severely missed opportunity.

More info

Love the game, great to play Chuckie Egg again after all these years. Only frustration is that there’s no info on how you unlock hidden levels, and gain achievements. I’m 2 short, including in-game purchases, and just can’t find how to achieve them, or how to unlock the final level. Is it behind the house? What do you do to unlock it?

Needs controller support

Looks great seems to play well but to frustrating for me as an aging gamer I would prefer controller support to play it in the way it used to be played.

Not Satisfied

I downloaded this app for something to do and it doesn’t work. I completed level 1 and then it said Go. I pressed go and then the only other button is quit. Then it takes you back to the levels page and level 2 still hasn’t been unlocked. I have completed level one many times and it still hasn’t worked. This needs fixed. I am very disappointed in this game.

Response from developer

Hi there - we're not sure what happened in your game. After completing each level, you have option of viewing an ad to unlock the next level, or paying and unlocking all levels (removing ads too). I've tried to re-create the problem you were experiencing but it doesn't happen on any of the test devices we have. Maybe try uninstalling and installing the game?

Where is the controller support

Great game but would be better if I could use my PS4 controller as well

Not as good as the original

Update: the speed and fluidity is a vast improvement and now it actually feels fun. It’s still not he same feel as the original but it’s perfectly fine as it’s own thing.

Original review:

While recreating the level designs and updating the graphics the developers seem to have missed what made Chuckie Egg so unique and fun in the first place. The original had fast and bouncy dynamics like a very early Sonic. This is just slow and limp, and the bouncing off platforms has not been replicated at all. Also, unless I'm mistaken It doesn't support mfi controllers which is a shame.

Needs mfi support

There’s no support for MFI controllers.

No bad

This is good as the levels are almost identical to the original but as with most touchscreen games the controls are hit and miss. Trying to time jumps perfectly is a 50/50 chance you’ll make it or not.

Worth playing the demo for free version but not worth £4. This should be a £0.79p game maybe £1.99 but certainly not £3.99.

Highly polished but difficult to control

I was a huge fan of Chuckie Egg on the BBC Microcomputer and it’s great to see a revival of this classic game on modern platforms. While the game looks fantastic, however, it is much harder to control using a touch screen. Jumping on or off a ladder, leaping onto a platform, or dropping from the top of a level to the bottom (to pick up that last egg!) is simply much harder to accurately and confidently achieve. As a result, the modern Chuckie Egg sadly lacks the energy and fun of its predecessor.

Faithful reproduction but...

The controls are rubbish. With the original, selecting direction jump and up (to grab ladder) was possible for an average 9 year old was reasonably straight forward. With this version it’s much more tricky.

Any chance support for Bluetooth keyboard could be added for those of us that couldn’t get past level 20 on the BBC?

Rubbish

No where near as good as the original 😢

Hi Daveclin -- Sorry you didn't like the game, but your review isn't really helpful. What didn't you like about it, and what can we improve? If you provide useful feedback, we can work to make the game better in future updates. Thanks!

A gaming classic

Chuckie Egg was a classic in the 80's so I was nervous when I heard a new version was coming out.

However this games great so there's nothing to worry about ! It's a modern take on the old classic as so far the levels seem the same as the original. Controls work very well and it's great you can try 3 levels before buying the rest (only 1.99). Only request I have is could we have a retro graphics mode ? The new graphics are very good but a retro look would be appreciated also !

Awesome retro

This game has an awesome retro feel , is smooth has great sound effects and music and graphically beautiful and easy to control, just downloaded super chuckie egg too ,looks beautiful on the iPhone X, would definitely recommend both.

Good ole days

Playing games from the good ole days and this is one of the best great game thank you 👍

Fun, fast game

Good pacing, fun game to play. Graphics are a plus too

Too fiddly

Practically impossible to control the chicken. No fun.

Quick and breezy gameplay

Read about this and thought I’d give it a go. The graphics are cool and the gameplay is pretty good. Fun little game

Nice update to a strong game

The faster speed in the latest update makes a big difference and this feels more like the original now. The hidden level Easter egg is a nice touch as well and it's pretty easy to find. The games still quite different from the original, but it's a fun and polished play.

Great game!

Was told about this game by one of my friends and decided to give a go since i remembrd the original. This was really different and a lot more fun to play!

Great game to play!

This was a total blast to play! Loved the graphics and all the cool touches. Remembered the original game but thought that this was even better.
