About

The tax bill you already know. Claimable is the tax book for a business of one in Canada, whether you are self-employed or run your own corporation. Photograph a receipt and it lands on the line of the return your business files. Your estimated tax bill moves the same second, so you know where you stand today, not in April. SELF-EMPLOYED OR INCORPORATED Self-employed: every expense lands on its T2125 line, and income tax, CPP or QPP and GST/HST are set aside together as the year runs. Incorporated: your corporation keeps its own fiscal year end, and every total, GST/HST period, deadline and export follows it. The export is the GIFI income statement (Schedule 125) your T2 preparer works from, a code and an amount for every line. The expense categories are the same for both, so a receipt is read once and lands where your return asks for it. WHAT HAPPENS TO A RECEIPT The line, not a category. "Office expenses" is line 8810 and "Motor vehicle" is line 9281 on a T2125, so there is no mapping step at year end. The rules run at capture. Meals at 50 percent. Input tax credits at your province's split: HST, GST with PST, GST with QST, or GST alone. Equipment by capital cost allowance class, with its first-year rule applied. A receipt in US dollars, euros or pounds converted at the Bank of Canada rate for the day. It reads the receipt through your business. Tell Claimable what you do, once, and every scan is filed the way your trade spends. WHAT YOU SEE EVERY DAY Kept so far: what is yours after estimated tax, CPP and GST/HST are set aside (self-employed). GST/HST net tax with input tax credits counted, every filing period with its due date. A warning before GST/HST registration becomes mandatory. The capital cost allowance schedule, with recapture and terminal loss. Your car, from the Claimable Drive logbook: the business-use share of its costs. Invoices with GST/HST worked out from the province of supply. AT YEAR END Copy the totals into your tax software, or hand the export to your accountant: a PDF summary, a CSV per line, and a ZIP with every original receipt, a SHA-256 hash for each file and the change history of every edit. Mark a year filed and it locks, so the return you sent stays the return on record. WHO IT IS FOR Freelancers and contractors, trades with a truck and a phone full of receipts, realtors, consultants, creators, anyone with a side business beside a job, and the owner-manager of a small corporation. YOUR DATA Stored in Canada. Encrypted in transit; receipt and invoice files encrypted at rest. Never sold. Delete your account in the app and it is gone, receipts included; backups age out within about a month. Built in Canada for Canadians. Claimable is not affiliated with the Canada Revenue Agency.
