About
ClearEther is a native app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that passively reports the ambient radio activity around you — using only the sensors built into your device.
It is an informational tool, not a medical instrument.
WHAT IT MEASURES
• Wi‑Fi on 2.4 / 5 / 6 GHz bands (MacOS only)
• Bluetooth Low Energy (2.4 GHz)
• Cellular: LTE (700 MHz – 2.6 GHz), 5G sub‑6 (~3.5 GHz), 5G mmWave (24–40 GHz)
• Magnetic field (microtesla) via the magnetometer (iOS only)
EXPOSURE SCORE
ClearEther combines readings into a transparent 0–1 index — calm, busy, loud, saturated. The weight of every vector (Wi‑Fi, BLE, cellular, magnetic) is fully adjustable in Settings. No black box, no marketing math: just numbers you can re-weight to match what you care about.
HISTORY & MAP
• Save snapshots with timestamps and location tags
• Map view shows past measurement locations and the estimated distance to nearby cell towers (using the public OpenCellID database)
• Trend chart for exposure over time
PRIVACY BY DEFAULT
• No accounts, no sign-up
• No analytics, no ads, no third-party SDKs
• No backend — your data stays on your device
• Location is optional and is used only to estimate distance to cell towers
• Only public cell identifiers are sent to OpenCellID for tower lookup
WHO IT'S FOR
• People curious about their radio environment — what their router emits, how many BLE devices are nearby, where the closest cell tower is
• Hobbyists, ham radio operators, and anyone who likes seeing real signal data
• Anyone comparing RF activity across places (home vs. office vs. commute)
WHAT IT IS NOT
ClearEther is not a certified meter. It does not diagnose, treat, or assess health risk. It surfaces what your device's sensors can already report, with a transparent explanation of how the score is computed — and lets you re-weight everything yourself. It is a measurement and awareness utility, not safety equipment.
