Clef: Learn & Memorize Piano

Clef turns the piano you already own into the thing that checks your playing. Connect a digital piano to your iPad, open a piece, and the sheet music responds to your hands. Correct notes turn green. Wrong notes appear as red markers at the exact spot in the score. WHAT YOU NEED Clef reads the keys you press over MIDI, not a microphone, so it knows exactly what you played. You need a digital piano or keyboard with a USB or MIDI connection and a cable to your iPad. Acoustic pianos are not supported. Clef is free while it is in beta. Create your account with an email and password right in the app, or sign in with an existing Clef account. LEARN A PIECE AND KEEP IT Clef re-tests each bar from memory right before you would forget it, so what you learned last month is still under your fingers today. Every few bars, Clef has you play the whole stretch you have just learned in one run, from memory. Each stretch overlaps the last, so the bars weld together instead of staying separate fragments. PRACTICE THE WAY YOU ALREADY DO Tap any bar in the score to start from there. Use the built-in metronome and raise your working tempo when runs come out clean. Trills, turns and mordents are graded note for note, not skipped over. A beginner view writes every sharp and flat on the note itself, so you never have to hold the key signature in your head. Clef remembers the fastest tempo at which you have played each bar cleanly, and shows you which bars are holding the piece back. A CATALOG ENGRAVED BY HAND Every piece in Clef is engraved and checked by hand rather than converted in bulk, so the notation you practice from is the notation you would buy. The catalog is small and growing, and you can request the pieces you want. WHY AN APP AND NOT A WEBSITE No browser on iPadOS can talk to a piano. This app carries a native MIDI connection so your instrument reaches Clef on an iPad at all.
