Not intuitive enough, too much mass deletion
I thought there were a lot more features and this would be easy to use based on reviews but this only does 3 things and it’s not clear at all what you’re mass selecting and mass deleting. I didn’t feel like I had enough control or understanding of how to use this. Needs clear instructions.
At one point I had both live and still photos in Photos because I chose the wrong option (and I had to manually delete those myself in Photos, they weren’t appearing in the Similar category), my next try it deleted all still photos that were made (I guess I chose the option to cancel what it had done) then finally I figured out how to get it to delete the Live Photos and keep still.
Another problem is it increases the space taken up on your phone, the opposite of what the goal is, with all the duplication mistakes that had to be put in the Recently deleted folder. I definitely accidentally permanently deleted some Live Photos that I had wanted to keep in all this confusion. I have 5,000+ Live Photos and was close to my iPhone storage max so at least it never got through them all.
At another point I was trying to get rid of Live Photos one by one because I realized there are some I want to keep that way and not just mass delete/convert them but somehow even though I was checking each one off I wanted it started mass creating stills from all live instead of what I chose, so I had to undo that (I.e. put all those in Recently Deleted and increase space used on my phone). Would also be nice to directly delete individual Live Photos entirely, not just turn them to still, while you’re going through them one by one but I didn’t see that as an option.
I also don’t like how for Similar I had to go through every single one - for hours - because they were prerecommended and I didn’t like some of the prerecommendations. Otherwise I could only deselect all or select all, ruining all the preselections and progress that I had made. Perhaps this is less of a problem for people who don’t have thousands of photos.
I did find compression feature very easy and helpful to use for video, I was able to individually select the videos to compress which saved a lot of space. Wish it was more clear the visual difference if any between the 3 compression size choices. Wish it would mass compress photos without a mandatory part of that being turning every single Live Photo into still.
I don’t find the Swipe feature useful at all, I like to see the totality of the photos before choosing so Similar is better for this.
Smart Cleanup as far as I can tell just mass deletes pretty much everything with no explanation.
This app focuses too much on being a blunt instrument of mass deletion. It needs more instructions on how to use it successfully on small distinct batches.
2 stars for the Compression feature and me finally kind of figuring out how to use it after a steep learning curve that had me mistakenly permanently delete a few Live photos I wanted to keep. With over 10,000 photos this is going to be a long process to complete, so I probably won’t within the 3 day trial then cancel it because it is NOT worth paying for all this bother.
If only iPhone Photos had internal options to compress, turn Live Photos into still that saves spaces, and a better Similar photo recognition system…
