CNC Radius Programming Basics To program a radius on a CNC lathe, you typically have two options: - Using the built-in program editor - Using a G-code editor (preferred for flexibility and precision) With a good understanding of G-code and this app’s assistance, you can program smooth arc movements and precise radius transitions easily. Automatic Chamfering and Rounding Tutorial (G-code Samples) Chamfering (C) - G01 X30. Z-20. - G01 X50. C2. - G01 Z0 This sequence moves the tool in a positive Z direction and adds a chamfer (C2). Rounding (R) G01 X30. Z-20. G01 X50. R2. G01 Z0. This example rounds the corner with a 2mm radius while moving in the X direction. You can also program chamfering and radiusing in negative directions or from different axis movements depending on your part geometry. Both C and R values define how much material to cut off or blend around corners. Coordinate Calculation for Complex Contours While calculating XY coordinates for simple shapes like rectangles is straightforward, it becomes more challenging when dealing with tapers, angles, or partial radii.
