About
Video calls with the people around you. No signal needed.
Codec Call turns two iPhones or iPads into a retro video walkie-talkie over Bluetooth. No internet, no account, no ads.
Chunky blocks of colour on a glowing CRT screen: low-res on purpose. That's the look, and it's why calls keep up.
THE RADAR
Anyone nearby with Codec Call open shows up as a blip. The closer to the centre, the stronger the signal. Tap a blip and their phone rings.
THE CALL
They answer, the static clears, and you're face to face in blocks of colour, about a tenth of a second behind real life.
Hold your own window to talk, like a real radio. Or switch on VOX and just speak.
PLAY WHILE YOU TALK
Tap GAME next to their name and their window becomes the board, while you keep talking. TANKS: drive with the arrows and FIRE; three hits wins, and brick walls break apart as you shoot. Or play a sea battle with four ships each, or tic-tac-toe.
NET LINK
On the same Wi-Fi you can call from farther away, with a sharper picture. It stays off until you turn it on. Leave it off on public networks.
IN YOUR POCKET
Lock your phone mid-call and the call carries on as voice. Leave Codec Call on standby in the background and calls still ring.
STAY HIDDEN
One tap takes you off everyone's radar. Hold a blip to block that device: it disappears and its calls are declined automatically.
MAKE IT YOURS
Four CRT looks, adjustable scanlines and vignette, three picture-quality levels. In English, Traditional Chinese and Japanese.
Take it camping or hiking, on flights and cruises, to festivals, or to the back seat on a long drive: anywhere the signal gives up.
GOOD TO KNOW
• Both devices need Codec Call.
• No servers, no sign-up. Nothing is recorded or stored, and nothing is left when a call ends.
