About
Point your camera at anything and watch it change. Color Blind and Diabetic Cam applies nine live simulations to the world in front of you, so you can see - not just read about - how vision differs from person to person.
Built for anyone explaining a diagnosis to family, teaching a class, designing something that has to work for everyone, or simply curious about what a relative sees.
ONE PURCHASE, EVERYTHING INCLUDED
Every simulation, every control and the whole Learn section come with the app. Nothing is held back and nothing has to be unlocked later.
COLOUR VISION DEFICIENCY
- Protanopia (red-blind): reds turn dark and muddy
- Deuteranopia (green-blind): the most common form, where red and green collapse together
- Tritanopia (blue-blind): blues turn green, yellows fade to pink
These three use the physiologically-based model published by Machado, Oliveira and Fernandes in 2009, applied in linear light - the same maths professional accessibility tools use, not a colour wash.
SIX EYE CONDITIONS
- Cataract: clouding, glare haloes and the yellow-brown cast of an ageing lens
- Glaucoma: peripheral sight fading inward as a soft grey haze
- Macular degeneration: a central patch, with straight lines bending around it
- Diabetic retinopathy: drifting dark blotches and thread-like floaters
- Astigmatism: directional smear that stretches lights into streaks
- Double vision (diplopia): a second, fainter image offset from the first
CONTROLS THAT MAKE IT USEFUL
- Severity slider on every simulation - walk from mild to complete and watch what disappears
- Compare mode: untouched on the left, simulated on the right, in one frame
- Freeze a scene and switch conditions on the same image
- Front and back camera
- Save any view straight to your photo library
A LEARN SECTION THAT EXPLAINS ITSELF
Every condition has a page covering who it affects, what people actually see, why it happens, the day-to-day impact and how it is managed - written in plain language and cited to the NHS, the National Eye Institute, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the World Health Organization.
Each page also says exactly what its camera filter is approximating and where the approximation breaks down. Three extra guides cover how the simulations work, how to design charts and interfaces that survive colour vision deficiency, and which symptoms need an eye appointment today.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Every frame is processed on your device. Nothing is recorded, collected or uploaded, and a photo is saved only when you tap the shutter yourself. There is no account and no sign-in, and the whole app works offline.
NOT A TEST, AND NOT A DIAGNOSIS
This app is for education and demonstration only. It is not a medical device. It cannot test for, screen for or diagnose colour vision deficiency or any eye condition, and what you see depends on your camera, your screen and the light around you. Conditions vary between people, between a person's two eyes, and over time. If you are worried about your sight, please see an optometrist or ophthalmologist.
