Dispatch Daily Newspaper

This app is a little clunky in that it updates but asks if you want to update. The news has mostly been on television yesterday or the day before. With the USA Today syndicate, there is news from other parts of the state which is not on television. They also have personal interest stories and ads. The free press keeps politicians honest by always being there and always asking questions.

Easier to maneuver to article. Full display of article

is a huge plus. Font and display easier to read Excellent coverage of here and now local news woven with national and international news when appropriate, and with “what can we do about it” articles.

Love the new Format

So easy to read the paper faster, with more clarity. The articles that I want to read I can expand to fit the whole page on my IPad.

Great App but …

We enjoy reading the Columbus Dispatch on our iPads, using the app. It’s easy to zoom in and out, navigate to sections or pages, or open articles in text view to email. Plus, you can access other editions (the Sarasota Herald-Tribune carries Carolyn Hax’s daily column!).

My only complaint is that every time I click on the app, it asks if I want to download the most recent edition. Very annoying! All our other news apps default automatically to the latest news. Please fix this!

Columbus Dispatch app is reliable

I read the Dispatch on the app daily and have never had an issue with a download or navigation through the ‘paper’ - no matter how early I access it. I appreciate being able to read in the format of the printed page which is my chosen option in the app.

Connect with Apple or Google account

The app is easy to use once you get with the program and link to one of the above. Since doing, I have never had an access problem. But I had continuous problems trying to logon using a password.

Still a paper

I miss having the paper but for the price I still enjoy the news electronically. I also don’t miss writing checks, carrying cash, or pay phones. It has taken some time to adjust to and find the settings that I like to use. Being fairly technical and inquisitive helps. Now if I can just train myself not to touch the next section button.

Enjoy the Dispatch

I have been reading the Dispatch for over 50 years. I especially have enjoyed the E-Edition as it removes the paper from the equation plus I do not need my cheater glasses to read. Thank you Dispatch for all the great years of service.

Good for the most part

Being kind of old fashioned, I didn't think I would like this, but I'm finding it easier to read from the tablet than having the big paper spread out on my small table.
Scrolling freezes up more than I like, and the one time I went to the USA Today version, I could not figure out how to get back to the Dispatch without shutting the whole thing down and starting over.

Good, not perfect

The app gives me the ability to read the paper. I can expand the text to a comfortable size. I can also read on the road and read the editions they no longer print. Sometimes I fight with the interface, but not too much.

Could Be Better

Love the convenience of being able to read the newspaper on my iPad, but the app could be much better, especially since it is similar, if not identical to, the reader apps used by other Gannett papers across the country. It is quirky at best. It loads the latest edition of the paper inconsistently or sometimes not at all. Navigation within the edition is not particularly smooth or easy, and the buttons are placed in a way that makes it too easy to send the reader to a page or section that is far from the intended destination. It is also very difficult to navigate to associated suburban papers. Overall, the app reflects the same mediocrity that characterizes this and other Gannett publications. Three stars may be generous.

New reading options

The app is now much more IPhone friendly. Being able to click on an article and read the entire text in a phone friendly font is a big much needed feature.

Pushed I liked it by accident.

Hate that the “how to use the app” instructions are on the splash screen with the option to never see the splash screen again but those same instructions are nowhere to be found in the app. Additionally, the app seems to consume a lot of battery and offline access to the content seems a bit unstable. Some other buggy stuff. In the end, the app is adequate, but not up to what I expect of an organization this big.

Too much filler, not enough news.

Lots of ads, lots of repeating news, lots of old news. Lots of spelling/ context errors. Where are the editors who are supposed to catch and fix them? I understand that they need to make a profit but printing something on Monday that was news the previous Thursday is not news. Anything over 24 hours old is not news.

Looks exactly like the print edition.

I’m a traditionalist who still likes the look and organization of a print newspaper. To save money - and trees - I only receive the print edition on Sunday. But the rest of the week I can still feel like I’m reading the actual paper.

Provides a good read

Didn’t think I would like this way of reading the paper but I really think it’s good. Seems like I read more articles. Easy to navigate and the price is great.

Hic-cups

Had a frozen blank page yesterday on IPad and couldn’t get past it. Also had a new e-mail from Dispatch about signing in. Went to App icon and tried to open that way. Didn’t work. Eventually went back to regular sign in (after getting it on phone and computer) and got to read paper on IPad

Effective

This app allows the reader to scan and examine the articles easily. It is way better than the previous ones used by the Dispatch.

Easy access

The Dispatch app is easy to navigate. One feature I really like is having access to ALL the newspapers in the Networks portfolio.
It is very interesting to see what is happening in other cities.

Please change arrows

Arrows on right side of page are too close together. One advances the page and the other goes all the way to the beginning or end. Too easy to touch the wrong one while reading. Content and layout great.
