Make planning combat encounters easier on yourself with Combat Calculator, an unofficial app for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. You can easily add the player characters of your party and check various combinations of monster challenge ratings to see the expected difficulty of that encounter. All calculations are done "rules as written" from the Dungeon Master's Guide on building combat encounters. If you struggle to keep track of how much xp to award, whether you're looking for the total for the encounter or a divided amount for each character, you can find that as well. All you need to do is add the party's characters and the monsters' challenge ratings and xp will be automatically calculated. Treasure is also given for each monster.
