The idiot cousin of minesweeper
Imagine taking a game that is perfect and making it more difficult to play and then adding a story line to it that makes NO SENSE!!! The developers of this game should be banned from ever making an app game again. How Apple thought this was a good addition to Apple Arcade I will never understand. Minesweeper is a simple game. It doesn’t need the extra frills. If you’re going to add more at least make it easy to understand. This game feels like it was made in another language translated, code and all, from English to another language and then partially back to English. That is how bad this dumpster fire is.

Not really Minesweeper
Minesweeper was a very simple but addictive game. As long as you kept your concentration you could win. This game is quite different. First, the logic of the basic gameplay is MUCH more complicated. Some of the taps/reveals are simple logic and you are certain whether it is a popped kernel or burnt kernel (explodes). Some of the reveals you will know but the logic is much more complicated than Minesweeper. Rather than simply looking at a box with a number and the surrounding squares in this game you must consider entire areas of the board and numerous possibilities. In many cases you don’t know with with certainty and you have to start considering the probabilities of you revealing a burnt kernel and then just guess and hope. At the beginning of each board you must randomly reveal numerous kernels just to get to a point where you can start using logic and often times you hit a burnt kernel and explode. So all together you lose probably 20%-30% of the games just due to unavoidable bad luck. Beyond this there is a very short tutorial that tells you nothing more than the most basic gameplay. Other than that you are left on your own. There is a “story” as you keep winning more levels and a store where you can buy items that help you in different ways. The problem is none of this is explained anywhere and the icons used are extremely nonintuitive and in many cases cryptic or misleading. There are 3 numbers in the top right below colored circles. I finally counted and figured these were the sum of the numbers in the kernels you have popped, how many kernels you have marked as burnt, and how many kernels you have not yet revealed. The problem is this information is entirely irrelevant in helping you win the game. The user interface was extremely frustrating and the background music just droned on and on until I finally couldn’t take it anymore and shut the sound off completely. I tried playing for 3 hours and spent half that time on the internet looking for explanations of how the game was played or what a certain icon did. The game might be good if you love Minesweeper type games and don’t mind spending many hours trying to figure out how the game is played. You have to be able to tolerate losing often as many reveals are simply pure random guessing or guessing based on probabilities. After 3 hours of frustration I gave up. Too much work, too much losing, not enough fun.

Started off with high expectations, but right when I load in, I can’t unmark a place I marked which is so stupid I hate this game.
Fun but not intuitive
I loved playing Minecraft way back when so was happy to see a similar game. I just wish there was something to decipher what everything means - the popcorn box at the top as numbers under it but I don’t know what they mean. I tapped in it and then it reset the game. This game needs more instructions!

Just worse Minesweeper
I like the music, art direction, vibes, etc — it’s al great on that front, but past that there’s not much here. It’s slow and it stutters, when it has no reason to. Furthermore, some of the mechanics don’t even work properly! For instance, opening up a “free” region on the board won’t open it entirely, and it’ll neglect to show the numbers for the corners. It would be a really fine take on minesweeper if the technical elements were fixed, but as it stands it’s hard to play. Just play minesweeper instead

Won’t Load 😭
Worked at first and now every time I open it won’t load past the “best with headphones” screen.
Okay, not great
Liked the game, not intuitive to figure it out first, I’ve finally beat all the main story levels, but can’t figure out how to unlock the achievements, don’t understand the music shack, and not much else to do after beating the main story.

Just a minesweeper game with fewer features. Nice look. Sound/music is so bad it can’t be on purpose. Do I not “get” the game?

What is happening!?!
I think you need experience with minesweeper to have any idea on how to play this game. The “tutorial” was far different then level one and I have no desire to search through YouTube videos to learn about a game that doesn’t bother to write something as basic as a useable tutorial.
Better off playing anything else or nothing at all
Why would you bother to start the game with “Best with headphones” when you plan on greeting players with a dreadful, dissonant cacophony. There isn’t even, as far as I can tell, any audio mechanic, like in some horror games to tell where footsteps are coming from. Not that I really expected any similar such mechanic in a minesweeper game of all things, it seems the reminder is there at the start just to make sure you are as annoyed as possible. Gameplay is truly bad. Places that would be a 0 in regular minesweeper don’t even always clear the spaces around them, so you’re left doing basic mechanics for yourself. You’re better off playing just about any other minesweeper game or none at all.

Okay first of all, the actual clicking of stuff is fine. But that doesn’t matter! You can’t even flag the corns, and it’s such a shame this game is so bad because it’s a great concept. The music soundtrack sounds good for like the first 15 seconds but then it starts to get really annoying, and the ui seems broken. The color pallet makes your eyes want to bleed, and that’s just the start. Do not get this game!

Bugged
The first time I played the game was fun! But since I closed the app the first time, if I try launching the app, it will not start the game, stuck on the “Best with headphones” page. Only way to access the game again is by redownloading, but continues to have the same problem.

Game is unplayable
Keeps talking me it’s best with headphones. Like cool man let me play this game. Apple Arcade shouldn’t have unplayable games on it. Makes it appear that they arnt properly testing the games they are releasing.
Confusing from the start
Other than turning music on/off, I have no idea what the settings icons do. This poorly designed game is not what I expect from Apple Arcade.
