About

Cortexa is an IQ-style reasoning test that tells you the truth about your score. Most tests in this category show you a number, then charge you to find out what you got wrong. Cortexa does the opposite. The test is free, the score is free, and the full worked explanation for every single question is free — because an explanation you cannot read is the only part of a reasoning test worth having. Six kinds of thinking, scored separately Pattern recognition, numerical, verbal, logical, spatial and abstract reasoning. You get a score for each one, so you can see the shape of how you think rather than a single flat number. The score shows its working Cortexa does not count correct answers. Every question carries a difficulty rating, and your score is estimated from which questions you got right, not how many. A hard item you solved counts for more than an easy one you didn't. You are also shown a likely range, not just a point score, because a 25-question test cannot pin a number down exactly and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. Tap the range to read exactly how the scoring works. Every question explained, none of it paywalled When you finish, go through the whole test. See what you picked, what the answer was, and why. Filter to just the ones you missed. No paywall on any of it. The figures are drawn, not photographed The pattern, spatial and abstract questions are drawn as real figures — matrices, rotations, reflections, sequences and missing pieces — not photographs of a worksheet. They are sharp at any size, readable in dark mode, and every one of them is also described in words — so the visual half of the test can be answered with VoiceOver instead of skipped. One question a day, that cannot move your score One question a day, the same one for everyone, with the explanation straight after. It deliberately does not affect your score — a streak that could move your number would turn the score into a measure of attendance. A retake is a real retake Every retake draws a fresh set of questions and avoids what you have recently seen, so a second attempt is a real second attempt. No account, and no server to have one on No account. No email. No sign-up of any kind. There is no networking code in the app at all, so nothing is uploaded and there is no server to upload it to. Your results are stored on your phone. The only thing that ever leaves it is a share card you choose to send yourself. It works completely offline. What this is, and what it is not Cortexa is a well-built reasoning puzzle set for self-assessment and entertainment. It is not a clinical or professionally administered IQ assessment, it has not been standardised on a representative sample, and it is not a diagnosis of anything. It does not claim a percentile, because the app has no reference population that would make one meaningful. If a number matters to you, what matters more is what it is built from. Tap the range on your result and the app will tell you, in full.
