Just ok
You canβt move the beads to alternate spacing to show adding as demonstrated in the right start math book. The beads only go to the far left and far right. We were trying to use the app to get us through lessons while we search for our missing abacus, but this is not a great substitute.
So far, so good!
I downloaded this app so that two of my children could do their Right Start math lessons at the same time and so far it has worked perfectly. I have a new iPad and the app works beautifully with no delays or issues.
Horrible app
I wouldn't complain if it was free. But I spent $2 on it and I'm going to have to just buy a physical abacus. I thought the app would get us through the rest of the week until I could search for the lost abacus this weekend. This is terrible, it takes for! Ever! For it to recognize your finger, so doing a whole math lesson takes impossibly long. We spent two days doing a lesson that should have taken half a lesson time. So much wasted time. I should have just pulled out some counting beans or Legos or something instead.

Beads doesn't move accurately at all
An exercise in frustration
Great extra abacus for Rightstart Math!
I love that we have the convenience of an extra abacus on our iPad for home and on the go! Thanks!
Could be great, but...
It won't respond to inputting data.
When we try to enter anything, it freezes, then it may or may not move the beads 2-3 minutes later.
I can't teach the program like this.

Love it
I really like the use of an abacus for math work! This is a great app for simple to more difficult math problems. My 1st and 4th graders both use it.
Needs improvements
Disappointed, abacus is only partially visible since updating the software. And there is no additional features like reading numbers out loud or at least showing it in the corner.
Great App But Needs An Update
This app is great; however, with the release of io7, one side of the abacus doesn't work correctly. This is understandable, but enough time has passed for them to fix problems. The owners probably didn't create the app, but this should have been resolved already. Otherwise the curriculum is perfect. While we're waiting on the fix, I use the Number Rack app. It would be nice to go back to using one app instead of two, though.

Worked great before but now it's not
We have the Righstart Mathematics curriculum and have used this app in the past on iPhones and iPod touches with no problems. I recently bought a new iPad and tried using it but half the abacus is not visible in landscape mode. I then tried on my iPhone and it has the same problem on there. Please fix this as it was working perfectly before.

Bug...
Great idea to travel with our curriculum, however a bug makes only half the abacus viewable in landscape mode. Please fix and update!!

Love having the AL abacus as an app to use with my Kindergartener. For $2 though I wish it had audible clicks when moving and clearing the beads. I'll update to 5 stars when/if that update is made.
Just what I needed!
This app is wonderful. I use the Slavonic abacus extensively in my teaching and tutoring, so this is so great to demo what I am doing to show the students. My only wish is that there would be sound effects that would be similar to using a real abacus. This would help give sensory feedback, making the learning experience closer to the real thing. I have been recommending it widely.

Helped with homework
I looked for this app specifically because I had read about it in conjunction with the Right Start math curriculum. My daughter loved it, and subtraction homework that was about to send her on a complete emotional breakdown was suddenly easy. The fact that the first 5 beads in a row are colored differently from the second 5 beads was very helpful for her. She immediately stopped counting her fingers and could SEE that, for example, 7 beads was the same a 5 and 2. My only problem with the app is that my daughter had trouble touching the beads in just the right spot to move them. I ended up moving them for her. I probably should try using it on my iPad instead of my iPhone. I have actually ordered a real Abacus from Right Start Math so that she can physically touch the beads, but will continue to use the app if we are working on homework away from home.

Off to a bad start.
Why can't this download like all the other apps? This one requires that I log on to iTunes on my computer before I can download it onto the iPad. Unfortunately, I am logged in, but it still is telling me that I can download it after I log in on my computer. Any suggestions? Grrrrr.
Works great
Works just like the real AL abacus. Would be nice if there was a small sound when moving or clearing beads.
Great abacus app
This Al Abacus is just like the real one - and my kids love the ipad so learning is now so much more fun for them!!!
