About

Cree Lexicon is a dictionary and learning app for the Cree language — both Woods Cree (nîhithawîwin, the "th" dialect) and Plains Cree (nêhiyawêwin, the "y" dialect). It is built for learners, students, and classrooms, with honesty and community governance at its core. WHAT'S INSIDE • Dictionary — search words in Standard Roman Orthography, syllabics, or English. Forgiving search understands accents and spelling-by-sound. • Word Machine — see how a Cree word changes form, generated by a real grammar engine, not guesswork. • Learning games — Daily Trail, Match Rush, and Word Builder, with spaced repetition so you review what you are about to forget. • Word packs — themed decks (animals, family, the land, numbers, and more) to learn a topic at a time. • Pronunciation — a say-it-like respelling and IPA for every modern word. • Both dialects — switch between Woods (th) and Plains (y) anywhere. BUILT HONESTLY Cree is a living language that belongs to its communities. We show where every word comes from and how confident we are in it: learning games only ever use verified, learner-grade words, and older material read from historical books is clearly marked and kept out of lessons until it is checked. Sacred stories are held under community governance (OCAP®) and are never shipped in the app. This is an early version and a work in progress. Woods Cree forms are marked unverified until a fluent speaker confirms them, and every word card has a "report this word" button. kinanâskomitin — thank you for learning with us.
