About
Croovka turns a Google Maps Timeline export into a short journey film on iPhone.
Pick a period, preview the path on a map, then export a square or full-screen MP4 you can watch or share. Parsing, preview, and rendering stay on the device. Your Timeline file is never uploaded.
No Google file yet? On New video, tap Try a sample journey to load a fictional 2025 East and Southeast Asia year (Seoul to Bali). Start over clears it so you can import your own.
WHAT YOU GET
• Import location-history.json (or older Timeline.json) from Google Maps
• Visits, activities, timeline paths, and routes that cross the date line
• All time, a single year, or a custom month range
• Live preview with the same camera, fading trail, and zoom-out ending as the video
• Square 1080×1080 for feeds, or full screen 1080×1920 for stories
• H.264 MP4 saved to Photos and the in-app Videos library
• Journey overview image in the same frame as the video
HOW TO GET YOUR TIMELINE FILE
Google does not give apps a Timeline API. Export the JSON from Google Maps, then open it in Croovka.
1. Open Google Maps
2. Tap your profile picture or initial
3. Open Your Timeline
4. Open Location and Privacy
5. Tap Export Timeline data
6. Save location-history.json to Files
7. In Croovka, tap New video → Choose file
Google Maps 6.93 or later is required. If older trips disappeared after changing phones, restore Timeline in Google Maps first, then export a new file. Croovka cannot sign into Google or read the encrypted backup.
PRIVACY
No Google sign-in, location permission, analytics, or account. The app reads only the JSON and videos you choose.
The basemap is the only network feature. CARTO receives map-tile requests for the areas you view (OpenStreetMap data). Croovka explains this before the first file is loaded.
