An article on their site (from today) linked to this app advising the latest issue was free. App was last updated 5 (!) years ago and the latest issue on it is from August 2015! Deleted.
Immersive and informative
As a Cult of Mac fan for several years using Safari I was curious to see what an iPad app version would look like on the M1 Air. This app gives the reader a very immersive and detailed view of the articles without any of the headaches of unwanted ads and other things on Safari. The stories have high quality photos that you can view in full screen. I am very happy with the way this app works across all my devices. It is also a much better reading experince than the Safari version of the articles.

Old App that I canโt cancel the subscription to for $83.88
I used to enjoy Cult of Mac, but this has been neglected and it keeps resubscribing me. There is no way to get rid of it. No one will read this anyway.

The Dev Team Has Moved On
Weird how online articles still reference the app, but humorously, the app hasnโt been updated since 2016.
If it were 2016, I would give this app a solid 3 stars.

Poor app, needs fixing but persevere...
This app at first had only some free 2015 issues.
Then I cancelled the downloads, and restarted the app.
Now it shows me the august 2020 issues.

Yes, this app hasnโt been updated for 4 years, but it works perfectly on my XR. Yes, the initial setup screen is annoyingly slow (it has taken about 5 minutes to finish), and yes it has current articles (again you need to wait an excessive amount of time to have them download) but overall it is a great app. They do need to update and make the process faster but you do get everything.

Initial setup angst
Difficult to write a review when the app gets seemingly stuck on the โinitial setupโ white screen for several minutes. When all of a sudden, the cover of an issue appears. Great I think, but wait, why does it look weird... oh, thatโs right, itโs an issue from 2015. Thatโs right, 2015.

Why is this still in the App Store and still advertising on Apple News?
I presume that the โfree editionโ which they show and which appears to be up to date is downloaded from some miscellaneous server, somewhere, but:
1. That isnโt clear
2. Iโm not going there, thank you very much.

Itโs not optimized for iPhone X
Itโs not up to much for iPhone X and when I load the app it only shows me 103 which is the last copy and the website says right now weโre on 303

Why canโt you just use your website like everyone else?
Seriously. Itโs annoying. Everyone wants me to put THEIR app on my phone. Something like this is not the right place for an application. It does nothing for me. Can you write Objective C or Swift but not HTML? Do you need a web developer? Or maybe a copy of Adobe Acrobat or a link to LibreOffice so you can make a PDF of the magazine you want to make available on your website? Itโs not rocket science.
Please be like every other news outlet and use your friggin website instead of making people download YET ANOTHER REDUNDANT APP.

Great for iPad, needs to be updated for newer iPhones...
I love the Cult of Mac podcast. I also love this app on my iPad. The content is great, itโs always up to date. The format of scrolling between magazines and articles is very fluid and user friendly.
This would easily be a 5 star app...but I am baffled that it is not updated for the new iPhones. Im reading reviews and articles on my iPhone Xs Max, and itโs like reading it on an iPhone 8 Plus with the bars on top and bottom.
Update the app, and Iโll absolutely add those 2 stars and update the review. Outside of that, keep up the outstanding work!!

Update?
I downloaded this because it was advertised in a story from Cult of Mac...the app isnโt updated to utilize the full screen of the XS Max. Itโs been out long enough. Get with the program.

Oh dear. Downloaded this app after following a link on the news app. The most recent issue here deals with the iPhone 6s FFS. What's going on, eh? A nice archive but useless for newer updates. Uninstalled.
Luckily I did not uninstall it, as I went back in one last time and log! All the issues are now there and up to date. It seems the app, when first installed, doesn't show the newest edition first. You have to wait until the entire catalogue has downloaded.
Once it has you can read the mag. I had an initial problem which, while scrolling through a story, every time it came to a picture or graphic it made it full screen. Turns out there's a "feature" called autozoom which is turned on by default. I found it horrible and annoying but once off everything worked as expected.
