Top reviews

Making riding safer for everyone!

Very impressed

Genuinely so impressed with this app. Extremely well made and intuitive, and just so thoughtfully designed. Definitely going to keep using for cycle journeys, and already recommended on to a few others.

Great route options

So refreshing to have an app that gives options for a safe route & not just the quickest! Still early days but so far very impressed.

Excellent and exactly what you need when riding with kids

[Update]

After writing this review Cyclemate replied telling me the fixed their turn-by-turn. So I have tried it out and they have!!!!

Even better with the new features they introduced. It’s obvious the developers know and care for cyclists.

——————-

The app gives great alternatives routes that avoid high traffic roads. It’s not perfect but it is much better than others I have tried. The turn-by-turn audio really helps but it can be a bit late to tell you to turn. The re-routing works a treat.

The faults are minor considering how great it is in coming up with routes.

Response from developer

Thanks for your feedback! We've tweaked the audio directions so it should alert you sooner now. Try it out and let us know what you think in-app or via support@cyclemate.club. Your feedback is really important.

Useless for London

Used for riding around London few times now and it takes the most ridiculous routes that are ment to be safer but just unnecessary longer, where as google maps takes you much more direct routes and still on cycle routes and shared paths.

Response from developer

Thanks for your feedback. Are you able to send us a few examples? Either report in-app or email support@cyclemate.club and we'll take a look. We do also show the most direct route side-by-side, as well as how that affects the busyness level so you can always choose that if you're finding the safer route too much of a detour. Cheers, Tom

The best app now I cycle everywhere

Has transformed my cycling experience in London, needs a few edits here and there but such a fan

Safe and effective

Great app, I hope this catches on and takes on more cities. Has been very helpful for me finding safer bike routes that I use daily now. I don’t use the maps feature daily but when I bike I know what streets to take and what to avoid

Exactly the Cycling satnav the london Cyclist needs

I rarely write reviews, but this is exactly what I needed - I love that prioritises the cycleways and has santander options with live docking data

Much better than google maps

This is by far the best app for safe cycle routes about London - it takes you down quiet roads and avoids dodgy cycle routes like canals, while still getting you to places just as quickly. Thank you for building this!

Very good quiet routing

I’ve used this app in London and the routing is sensible, particularly if your preference is for safer and quieter routes.

The team are also responsive to reporting any issues with routing.

I would love to see Apple Watch support as Apple Maps is safer to look at while riding, as it supports a map on the watch, otherwise I have to get my phone out.

best cycling directions

I am LOVING this app. Great cycling directions in NYC using a mix of bike lanes and “quiet streets” which is a fantastic idea. I genuinely feel these cycling directions are safer than the usual map apps. Excited to see how the app keeps developing.

Game changer for city cycling

Neat app which is great for city cyclists. Has helped me find quieter / more suitable routes in areas of London I’m less familiar with

Definitive Resource for NYC Biking

I absolutely love how Cyclemate details bike routes in New York City at varying levels of safety. It’s an amazing resource for avid city bikers.

LA cycling

Love this app making cycling in big cities (especially in LA) safer and more intentional! So fun that the team also leans into developing in-person community and city exploration.

Why do I have to sign up?

Absolutely love the idea, but I deleted it after ing downloaded because you have to sign up. Why do I have to give you my email to plan a route? I’m not handing over my contact information for a map I already have access to elsewhere.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback! You're able to use our route planner for free with no sign-up on our website (https://cyclemate.club). For turn-by-turn directions and our native experience, like many other apps we do ask for an account to be made. Our app has no ads and is completely free; all we ask is that in return you create an account. You're welcome to sign in with an anonymous Apple login and opt-out of data sharing in settings. Our app comes with a bespoke routing engine for every city, which we've spent many months developing, so it's more than just a map :) We'd love for you to give us another go, feel free to email us with your concerns - support@cyclemate.club.

Good idea but needs work

Nice idea in theory but clearly is in early stages, some feedback:
- gives me route to work around Elephant & Castle roundabout which is very busy at rush hour - Google Maps actually gives me quieter & less busy route
- I can’t search for addresses by postcode so I can’t actually enter my home address correctly
- tells me I can cut through from Rye Hill Park to Water Mews, this is not possible and hasn’t been for years… Google Maps also sometimes makes this mistake so this suggests to me they could be actually using Google Maps behind the scenes

This is a good idea as Google Maps often takes me go round the houses and takes me inefficient routes eg through bicycle access barriers

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback! Our latest version supports postcodes now. We do have a custom model that heavily prioritizes city-managed bike lanes so I am surprised the route takes you through Elephant & Castle. If you're happy to share your route, please email support@cyclemate.club and we can take a look! We're also able to override specific roads in real-time (see https://cyclemate.club/for-cities) so we'd love to update our model to have that exclusion you mention. Cheers, Tom

Great app!!

Love that it tells you what parts of your route are on protected bike lanes

Simple! I like it

Fast. Simple. It just works

Useful and fun

Really great app! It’s great for cycling in my neighborhood because I know it won’t take me on main streets with lots of cars / traffic
