User reviews

Nice app , but no skip , and no recap .

I love the idea of the app , but finding it difficult to progress.
I have a strong Northern Ireland accent ( obviously not the developers fault ) , and the odd word comes up which i simply can’t get at the moment. When this happens, I can’t skip the sentence, and can’t go back to the single words or recap .
I know I could go to other categories, but having recently moved to Cyprus , there are specific areas I want to prioritise .
I’m sure the app will develop further , and will keep it for another month or two , to see if I can progress.
Thanks , Alan .

Free Features needed

Lots more free features needed to entice people to use this. Also, you can’t revert back to previous lessons to repeat them.

High hopes but Sadly did not deliver

I was very excited when I saw that this app was in development and eagerly awaited its release , on release I was a little disappointed with the high price point and the ability to only sample a couple of categories prior to making a commitment to the subscription service , this was not enough to make an informed decision in my opinion so I held back with some disappointment. Then i was super excited to learn a revision was made to now offer a 14 day free trial . Happy days I thought now I can fully trial the app and make a more informed decision in terms of committing to the subscription service. So I signed up and will give an honest opinion of my findings. Full disclosure I am half Cypriot with a basic knowledge of modern Greek and some understanding of the accent and some words having grown up around the dialect although I never actually learnt it , that said I completed all categories within 6 days well within the trial period . The categories are set out in phrase book style and there is quite a bit of repetition which can be good or bad depending on your viewpoint. The app provides access to various pre set phrases which for some people will be fine (holiday makers, travellers etc)but for those wishing a deeper understanding of the dialect , language ,grammar or ability to construct sentences for yourself to have meaningful conversations with relatives etc it will sadly fall short in my opinion. The voice recognition definitely needs some work although in fairness they tell me this is still a work in progress. It can prove to be very frustrating having to repeat the same words over and over correctly before they are accepted and you are able to progress, I counted on one occasion 50+ attempts before I was able to continue despite correct pronunciation . A skip feature (in development I’m told) would certainly avoid the frustration this creates ahead of the voice recognition being more fit for purpose. I had big hopes for this app having always regretted never learning Cypriot Greek growing up and now in my 50’s but the apps value I feel very much depends on what you want to get out of it I think if you are visiting Cyprus and looking for a few phrases to use it may be perfect for you but to be honest I can’t imagine having a use for a lot of the phrases provided and if you are looking for a deeper understanding of the dialect as I was I don’t think this provides it sadly . This realistically in its current format is just an electronic phrase book and I don’t feel is a good fit for the subscription model as the content can be covered fairly quickly therefore does not provide value for money to warrant ongoing payments. It would in my opinion be more suitable as a one off purchase in line with other phrase books. Perhaps with further development this will in time hopefully change and deliver in terms of an app that will both teach the language /dialect beyond phrase book level and preserve it for future generations.

Love the idea of this app, needs refining

I’ve been waiting for an app like this and I love the idea of it and the different sections. I haven’t utilised the paid for areas just yet but I will be happy to once the teething problems are fixed. As it’s a new app, they are to be expected. I found it quite difficult to jump straight to full sentences from singular words. I wish you could skip forward and back so you can revisit to practice or jump forward if you’re struggling with a particular sentence and come back to it another day. My self and my teen son have enjoyed using this app so far. Thank you so much to the creators.

Reconnecting with cultural identity

Living as a second generation Cypriot in Australia, it was frustrating for my sisters & I when we would not be able to participate in large family gatherings due to our inability to converse with relatives in Cypriot. This app means I can give that education to my kids (and myself) and reconnect with our cultural identity. A long time in the making!
