About
Pick a place. A needle points at it, and the distance counts down in straight-line metres. Find your own way there.
Choose an address, a landmark, a dropped pin or a place you have saved. Or just choose a direction.
The needle knows about water. When a river or a canal is in the way, it points at a bearing you can walk and names the bridge to cross. A dotted needle keeps the straight line in view.
Phone compasses drift near steel and cars. The wedge around the needle shows how sure it is.
Save places you visit, from where you stand. When you are near one again, it shows on the rim of the compass.
The map is for choosing a place: water, parks, piers, bridges, landmarks and your saved places. No streets. Search for an address or tap anywhere.
While the needle is set, the Lock Screen and the Dynamic Island show a small compass with the distance.
On Apple Watch, the needle points the same way on your wrist. Set it on your iPhone, then raise your wrist.
Your location, places and notes stay on this phone. No account, no tracking. Maps work offline; address search needs a connection. Export your places as GeoJSON or GPX.
Maps cover New York City, London and San Francisco. New York City comes with the app; the others download from Apple. The compass and your saved places work anywhere.
Needs iOS 26.4 or later on an iPhone with a compass, and watchOS 26 for Apple Watch. While the needle is set, location runs in the background.
