About
DayTrace keeps an exact, automatic record of how many days you spend in every country, so you always know where you were.
Tax residency questions turn on where you physically were. DayTrace gives you and your advisor those facts, so you can work out your tax residency together. A spreadsheet built from memory and boarding passes is exactly the evidence that does not hold up when someone asks. DayTrace replaces it.
HOW IT WORKS
Turn on background tracking once. DayTrace records your location as you move, always when you change location and at most once an hour otherwise. It runs with the app closed, and tells you if tracking ever stops.
Every country you set foot in is counted, not just the ones you remember to add. US states are counted the same way.
COUNTED CAREFULLY
Countries do not count days the same way, and DayTrace does not pretend they do.
- A travel day counts in every country it touched. Helsinki to London to New York in one day is a day of presence in all three.
- Where a country counts the day you arrive or leave differently, DayTrace follows that convention.
- Territories are tracked separately. Sint Maarten is not the Netherlands, and Hong Kong is not China.
- Count over a calendar year, a tax year, a rolling 12 months or consecutive days.
YOUR NUMBERS, YOUR ALERTS
Whether a number of days matters depends on your status, your ties and any exemption you rely on, and DayTrace cannot know those. So you choose the number for any country you want to watch. We start you on a common default, and you change it to whatever your advisor tells you.
Get a heads-up at 30, 15 and 0 days to go, while you can still change a flight. Plan a trip before you book it and see how it would change your counts.
Schengen 90/180 tracking is available as an optional extra in Settings.
RECORDS YOUR ADVISOR CAN USE
Export a dated PDF travel summary with per country totals and every separate stay, plus a full CSV day log with a confidence score for each day. Gaps are flagged rather than guessed, and you can correct any day by hand. The export states days and dates only. It makes no claim about your residency.
PRIVACY
Signup takes an email address. No name, no passport, no government ID. Your data is stored on EU infrastructure, encrypted at rest, and never sold or shared for advertising. Coordinates are sent to a geocoding service only to work out which country they are in, without anything that identifies you. Beyond that and the providers that run the service, your data leaves DayTrace only when you export it yourself. You can delete your account and every day of history from inside the app, at any time.
DayTrace counts your days. It is not tax or legal advice, and it does not decide your residency or immigration status. Always have a qualified advisor review your position before filing.
