Best Jellyfin Music App
I’ve tried a lot of solutions in my quest to replace Spotify with a self-hosted solution for my media library, and Dee Jellie has blown everything else out of the water. It’s more stable, performant, feature-complete, easy to set up, and flexible than anything else I’ve tried. The developer seems to really care and provides frequent updates to the app, which is great to see when so many other options are closed source one-and-done clients with broken and missing features.
The only reason I haven’t given the app 5 stars is that with all of the new features, especially lately, the UI has become a little bit bloated and slow. Searching, for example, currently gives me four bars along the bottom of the screen stacked atop each other- a category selection and search button, a now playing bar, a search bar, and a search category filter bar, with mixed theming and sizing. Typing to search is so slow that there are often several seconds between keypresses, making it very frustrating to perform searches for longer names. Indexing the media collection on my server comprising of ~2000 tracks across ~500 artists takes nearly 10 minutes, and the app often crashes halfway through the refresh- though thankfully progress appears to save and so it will complete on reopening. A lot of this might be my fault for having a large, relatively unorganized media collection, but it’d be nice to see some performance improvements in future updates. Perhaps the addition of an optional server-side plugin to proactively index media similar to how Infuse works could solve a lot of these problems.

Response from developer
Thank you for the feedback! Glad you’re enjoying the app and hope it will only get better with future updates. That’s definitely longer than it should take to refresh and I’d be interested to hear if it’s resolved in the next release! Like you mentioned, the pipeline grew far beyond music and the refresh process needed a rewrite for stability which will arrive in the next update.

Sorry you had trouble using the app! It does not include media, so you do need your own server configured properly with metadata. The optional Supporter subscription is not required to use the application and provides extra features.
Best Jellyfin App
So far with the little time I had with it so far (about 4 hours) it’s the best Jellyfin app by far. Better than the actual Jellyfin web interface, especially for music. It has a lot of detail and feels great to use. Though, at times, there was some stuttering and I had a couple crashes with the app but after reinstalling it again worked fine. I also did have some trouble with syncing with my Apple TV. Such as adding music to a playlist and getting my Apple TV Now Playing to sync with my iPhone within the app but did show it in the control center and was able to control the music there. Overall would recommend so far. I can’t appreciate the work that went into it enough. Oh and the achievements are a nice touch.
