About

A cut with an end date. Built for athletes who train. Deficit is a calorie and macro tracker built around structured diet cycles. You pick a duration (4 to 12 weeks), set your targets, and a weekly algorithm adjusts calories and protein based on what actually happened to your weight, body fat, and activity. If your week includes barbell work, long runs, cycling or swimming, this is the tracker that accounts for all of it. HealthKit-native. No ads. Try free for 7 days, cancel anytime. DIET CYCLES Most calorie trackers assume you'll log food indefinitely. That's not how good diet phases work. You commit to a block, execute it, and move on. Deficit structures this the way a coach would. Pick a duration. Set a start date. The app counts down. When the cycle ends, you're done. Start another one when you're ready. You can run a cut, a maintenance phase, or something custom. Each type has its own calorie logic and its own finish line. THE WEEKLY ALGORITHM At the end of each week, the algorithm looks at four things: how your weight changed, how your body fat changed, your activity level, and whether you logged consistently. From that, it adjusts your calorie and protein targets. Weight dropped but body fat went up? Targeted calorie reduction. Weight stalled but body fat came down? Plan holds. Logging was inconsistent? The algorithm flags it rather than making adjustments on bad data. 12 weight-loss cases and 9 maintenance cases. Not one formula applied to everyone. FAST LOGGING Five input methods, all built for speed. Search: fast lookup against a verified food database with one-tap add and remembered portions. Photo: point your camera at the plate, AI identifies the food and fills in macros. Voice: say what you ate, it gets parsed into entries. Barcode: scan and go. Custom: build your own meals from ingredients or save custom products. Recents and favorites are one tap. The whole point is to keep logging fast enough that you actually do it for the full cycle. BODY COMPOSITION Protein targets are calculated from lean body mass, not total bodyweight. This matters. A 200-pound athlete at 15% body fat has meaningfully different protein needs than one at 25%. Body fat is tracked as a primary metric alongside weight. Not an afterthought buried in settings. FUEL CLAIM Runs, rides, swims, and sessions over 60 minutes earn calories back. The math uses peer-reviewed energy expenditure data and your HealthKit workout metrics, not a generic activity multiplier. Your daily target goes up on big training days and comes back down on rest days. No "lightly active" dropdown. No guesswork. BUILT FOR iOS WITH PRIVACY IN MIND Designed for iPhone with Apple Health integration and iOS 26 Liquid Glass. Your activity, weight, and body-fat data stay on your device. Your food data stays on your device, but we include it to AI requests if you choose to use AI features. No account required. We will never do ads or sell your data. WHO THIS IS NOT FOR My wife disliked all calorie tracking apps because they are either slow or inaccurate (or both). So I decided to build one we both would enjoy. However, this is not a beginner weight-loss app. If you want a casual wellness tracker, enjoy gamification and are fine with LLM inaccuracies, there are other good apps. Deficit is for people who train and want structured, evidence-informed diet plans with a beginning and an end.
