Notifications don’t work
I’ve missed critical announcements because my kid’s school is only using this app for key communication, but I get an error message if I try to select my kid’s school to receive announcements.
It’s totally worthless if it doesn’t communicate!

Why email when you can make things way more complicated?
Classic DPS: spent a ton of money to create something unneeded instead of just using email. Messages keep showing up as unread even after I read them and our teachers don’t know when to use this versus email. And making families download a smart phone app? Sounds real equitable to me, I wonder what the adoption rates are by student group, though we know the district will never share those.

So when they make an app for the whole district, maybe double check that you didn’t forget a whole High School. Northfield High School anyone?

Awful
This is the worst app I’ve ever used. It logs me out at the most inopportune times, then won’t let me log back in. I get error messages that I don’t have access to my account every time I log in even though it lets me log in just fine on my web browser. The help section is 100% worthless and there is no person to contact with problems with the app. I would give this negative stars if I could. One star is more than it deserves.

Rushed alpha product?
Couldn’t they have at least paid for a template from another school district that has basic functionality that works? Teachers post links, can’t copy them into anything else. Try’s to get you to download google docs app which is already on phone. No web portal to try another way. No way to comment on teacher posts (unless the teachers do something?). School feed is only completely independent of the core DPS news feed so you see motherhood content, but nothing from your actual school without multiple selection changes every time. Very frustrating.

Privacy policy
The privacy policy can be summed up as “DPS is responsible for your data, not us. We are a platform that processes data and can share and sell it to anyone we want.” Basically social media, but with yours and your kid’s PII on it.
I used to work for DPS Infosec and while the Infosec and infrastructure teams are hardworking , honorable people, the decision makers about all of the apps DPS uses need to be investigated for pedaling the information of minor students and their families. This would include their device management management, legal team, equity team, HR team and the countless pastry shoving paper jockeys who always get to add their two cents. The Superintendent’s team is the most suspect of course.
The maker of this app, Apptegy, is a series B startup in California. There is no legal responsibility for this company to inform its customers if and when it is acquired by anyone, even a foreign entity from an unfriendly nation, or Musk, or Palantir.
DPS let itself get duped and forces all staff, students and parents to give up their most sensitive information.
I wonder who at DPS and its Board is making money on this?

App closes when attempting to open the messages section.
I was able to see my child’s classroom and the general messages posted there, however when I attempt to view messages… the entire app closes out completely.

Someone messed up. This app is terrible
I’m sure there’s a DPS employee (or 12) who got paid to put together this awful app, that doesn’t work, and I don’t even see my school listed. And then someone at my school just says “well sounds like a you problem”. So that’s fun.
Not Ready
Signed in ok, but once inside found it to be lacking functionality. Hardly any schools are included yet. Also encountered poor formatting, with text cut off on both sides of the iPhone 12 Pro screen. Feels like this app was rushed so as to be ready for school, which it clearly is not. Needs serious help or will end up being a waste of time and money during a critical budget year.
It’s also worth observing that when it comes to school apps in general, our own school front offices typically use no more than about 20% of any given app’s available features. It’s rare for us to see more than one or two teachers per year who use an app at all. Maybe DPS should just stick to email.

Worse than I imagined.
Where is Dora Moore? We’ve been told to download and use this. Can see messages from the teachers, but can’t see the actual school listed like all the other DPS schools.
Update after using this week: still 1 sad star, wish I could give 0. Why did this launch right before school started? It wasn’t even live when the first comms came out. Did you beta test this at all with any parents? Still don’t see my school listed.
Launch screen functionality is limited - why is the default feed for DPS? I don’t need or want news about the district, I need to know what my kids’ school principal is posting and what their teachers are sending. I should be able to mark posts as read from this tab.
Filtering on Rooms tab is bad:
The filter is a whole bottom sheet? Should just be check boxes like regular filters. Don’t need to reinvent the wheel - use standard filtering UI.
Archiving impossible - please for the love of inbox management, add an archive or delete function for messages.
Spacing and UI feedback: why is there so much space in the carded posts?! Please make the UI denser so we can use it more easily. The tags have no functionality, and why are they at the bottom of the card. Why does one space in a message from a teacher render as two?
Typography: why is the type on the Events page huge?

My child’s school is not listed so there is no way to use this app to communicate with his teacher.
Clunky & Confusing
I downloaded this app today after receiving a letter from my daughter’s school saying parents were already set up in their child’s classroom. Based on that, and on the app’s login screen, it seemed like all I’d need to do was enter my phone number or email to access the classroom. That gives the impression that parents already have accounts.
But that’s not the case. When I tried with my phone number, I never received a code. When I tried my email, I was told to “complete my Thrillshare registration.” So, in reality, you have to go through a full registration process — something that should have just been made clear from the start. Instead, it comes across as confusing and misleading.
Once inside, the app isn’t much better. At first, it made me re-enter my daughter’s classroom every time I reopened it. It seems to stay logged in now, but the functionality is still disappointing. You can’t interact with posts at all — no comments, no likes — just direct messages.
And honestly, I don’t understand the point of this app. The same announcements are still being sent home on paper and emailed, so it adds no value. At least with ClassDojo, which our school used last year, parents could actually interact and feel connected.
