Nice toy
It’s a pretty cool toy. High quality. My kids really enjoy it. I wish it didn’t have a subscription model so I could use it while I’m traveling without paying anything that’s why I gave 4 stars.
Love Dex, except for the LTE Voyager up charges!
Annoying that the current free plan always gets interrupted with buy the upgrade. Everyday we have to override this. Terrible!

Many mistranslations and Unnecessary reliance on Gen AI
I’ve been asking them to implement this since I got the Dex camera in October 2025. The languages have many mistranslations, and there is no way for native speaking parents to submit direct feedback to improve it. This feels lazy and is a disservice to the families that are putting their trust on Dex to teach their child their native language and specific dialect. Nearly half of the Puerto Rican Spanish words that Dex is teaching my child are actually not commonly spoken in Puerto Rico. This has not improved in seven months since we started using Dex. If you implemented a tool in the app for parents to directly provide feedback about the words the child encounters during the activities, you would have a far more effective product in your hands. Moreover, there’s too much reliance on Gen AI for content generation. The songs that come up sometimes are honestly terrible. Hire a content creation team of ARTISTS and pay them their dues. Leverage your user base. It’s not too much to ask, and the product will be far better for it.

Learning made fun
My child has been using this for Spanish and it’s been wonderful at keeping her engaged and playfully learning at the same time.
Great interactive experience for kids overall
I have 2 Dex cams for my 2 kids and they both love it. It's interactive, fun and helps reinforce the language they're learnin at their immersion school.
A couple nits: I wish the silver button on the side of the screen did not so easily turn off and on and sometimes the kids accidentally turn it back on when they are trying to turn it off then screen drains the battery. The app is also not always up-to-date or maybe it’s usually by the way it’s not as intuitive. i’ve also noticed that when I tried to add flash cuts for one kid that automatically shows up in the profile of the other kid but my kids are a different ages and I’m not ready for one of them to have the same flashcards topics available as the other because of the age difference in what they’re learning in class. Not a big deal but I'd like to customize.
I know this an early version and I would still highly recommend this as my kids are engaged in the photo taking, stories, and love showing it to friends and family!

No real parental controls
I got this with the promise that there will be parental controls but there are only limited options. I can’t blockout anything. Only option is to type in key words but those key words don’t get blocked. So my child was exposed to information that he/she is not ready for at her age. Considering. The damage it did to my daughter, I highly recommend that you stay away from this platform. No real customer service or tech support either. My child is learning Japanese and the devise was also teaching inaccurate Japanese. Some words it was totally incorrect. I’m fluent in both English and Japanese so I know.

Amazing Device that works as advertised.
I got our first Dex for my my 5 year old on a whim after seeing an instagram ad that showcased its killer app feature of pointing at anything, recognizing it, and unbelievably teaching about it in one of several language options. I can confirm that it delivers on that promise and more. After the novelty of taking pictures wears off, the Dex also has a well-curated set of activity options that extend language learning with your kiddos (and yourself if we are being honest). We have two now and my kids love it! Get it and you won’t be disappointed!

Best of Christmas
This is one of the most amazing pieces of technology I’ve seen come out for kids since I’ve been a parent. It’s far exceeded my expectations in what it could do the way it provides context while teaching language is incredible. I love this.
Lots of potential but rough edges abound
The visual recognition is really solid, but in our attempt to learn Cantonese, we notice some issues where the tool is defaulting to Mandarin before switching to Cantonese mid sentence. It’s really confusing.
Great device misleading Arabic dialect
Great product and very entertaining. Arabic is still in the beta version. The dialect for Levantine is purely Egyptian dialect. The standard Arabic at the advanced level mixes Egyptian Arabic with standard Arabic. The voice of the woman speaking is also a lot less natural than the Korean and the Spanish versions.

Love Dex best
My kids love that’s it’s the best thing that they ever got for Christmas gift. As they do not speak Spanish and are starting to learn they find it so interesting. We have been stopped by people to ask what it is and how cool it looks for kids.
My daughter loves it
Have been struggling a lot to get my daughter to speak Mandarin. We can't afford to do one parent, one language. Now, Dex is her favorite activity, and it makes speaking Mandarin fun. Great idea and execution - would love more stories and activities though.
Allow us native speakers to help improve languages
My family is Puerto Rican, and I notice that Puerto Rican Spanish is in beta, but there is no way for us native speaking parents to directly submit feedback and corrections for the language models. I’m finding many incorrect translations and pronunciations, even inconsistent translation from one photo to another (example: sometimes it translates the same toy car to “carro” and sometimes it says “coche,” and the word collar, which is spelled the snake in both English and Spanish, is still pronounced in English when it’s asking my child to say it in Spanish. It would be mutually beneficial if we could submit such corrections!
My other concern: I didn’t realize Dex Camera was mainly built on AI Generated content. This needs to be clearer on your marketing. You also owe consumers an explanation of the tech infrastructure behind Dex (especially concerning gen AI), due to the ethical and environmental implications of using this technology. I hope that you can be more transparent in the future. A lot of us parents care and want to consume more ethically and intentionally.
