About

Dict Island is a little island that grows up with your child—one word at a time. Open it and you have a two-way English–Chinese dictionary. Type Chinese or English and it auto-detects the language, offers instant suggestions, and shows IPA, US/UK pronunciation, Chinese meanings, and which exams the word belongs to (junior-high, public English tests, CET, TOEFL, IELTS, and more). Inflected forms are linked back to their base word (onions → onion). Then head out to the Growth Sea to make the words stick. Eleven themed islands track progress with levels and stars: • Learn: meet new words • Quiz: quick multiple-choice review • Review: spaced repetition (SRS) that brings a word back right before it’s forgotten • Test (dictation): hear the audio, type the word, with forgiving feedback Want to practice speaking? The Voice tab lets kids shadow and record, with a waveform and a recognition-match score they can actually see. Tap any word to look it up, add it to the Wordbook, and it’s automatically scheduled for review. Write [[word]] in a note and it links back to the dictionary—look up, save, and review all connect into one flow. For parents and teachers: snap a photo or import a PDF of a school word list. The app recognizes the text on-device, lets a parent proofread it, and turns it into the child’s own custom word set. Designed to keep parents at ease: • Fully offline—dictionary, pronunciation, and recordings all stay on the device; audio is never uploaded • No data collected by default, no third-party ads, no behavioral tracking • Export, settings, and any external links sit behind a Parental Gate • Built-in Focus mode and usage time limits Dictionary sources: English→Chinese from ECDICT (MIT) and Chinese→English from CC-CEDICT (CC BY-SA 4.0), credited inside the app. From primary school to exam prep, Dict Island helps kids fall in love with looking words up—and make every word they meet their own.
