Unlike closed messengers, Matrix isn't owned by anyone. You choose the homeserver you trust — a public one, your company's, or your own — and Discourse connects directly to it. Your messages and account live on that server, never on ours. In fact, we don't run any servers at all, and we collect nothing about you.
