About

Discourse is a fast, native chat client for Matrix — the open, decentralized messaging network. Bring your own server, keep your own keys, and talk to anyone across the Matrix network. Unlike closed messengers, Matrix isn't owned by anyone. You choose the homeserver you trust — a public one, your company's, or your own — and Discourse connects directly to it. Your messages and account live on that server, never on ours. In fact, we don't run any servers at all, and we collect nothing about you. Built for iPhone Discourse is written from the ground up in SwiftUI to feel right at home on iOS. Smooth scrolling, native gestures, Dynamic Type, dark mode, and a layout that adapts from your iPhone to a full multi-column view on iPad. End-to-end encrypted Conversations in encrypted rooms are protected with Matrix's end-to-end encryption. Not even your homeserver can read them. Verify your other sessions and contacts for real peace of mind. Everything you expect from modern chat • Direct messages, group chats, and public rooms • Spaces to organize your rooms and communities • Threaded replies and message reactions • Voice messages and voice/video calls • Photos, videos, files, and inline media • Custom emoji, stickers, and polls • Live presence and read receipts • Rich, actionable push notifications with sender photos Multiple accounts, one app Sign in to as many Matrix accounts as you like and switch between them instantly. Get notifications for every account, with per-account controls and unread badges so nothing slips by. Private by design • No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no third-party SDKs • Everything is stored locally on your device • Notifications carry only what's needed to decrypt on-device • Open standards, no lock-in Sign in with your Matrix ID or homeserver address and start talking. Whether you're on matrix.org, a community server, or self-hosting, Discourse is the client that stays out of your way. Discourse requires a Matrix account. Matrix is an open standard maintained by the Matrix.org Foundation; this app is an independent client and is not affiliated with the Foundation.
