Discovery AUv3 Synth User Reviews

More in depth synth than a complex math

So I played one in real life once and I think this exceeds it for the amount of banks and libraries of so many categories, its the most I’ve seen besides like a full Sinclair. There are techno classics and arps and what I think are 4 or more actual preset banks. Official or something factory, so that’s all loaded and ready . You know back in the day that would be a task to dl and then load. I’m not sure but I think hardware had only one library and 4 banks per patch (which was still ace at time)I think each. Anyway this has improved al9t and I’ve not crashed it in my hyper lab synth simulation. The actual presets are varied and well crafted. I often am.blown away want to like reverse engineer them. The range of bell and percussive arpeggio and plucks to the best old school techno bass and on. Hails to it all seemingly Working well with midi as well. What synth I almost overlooked. Hails

Sounds Absolutely Amazing

This is a lot of fun to program and there are more presets than you’ll ever need. The sound that comes out of it is incredible. The latest update has added exposed MIDI parameters which makes automating inside of a DAW a breeze. One slight problem is with the UI, it doesn’t scale very well inside of AUV3 hosts, and it’s tedious to have to program synths outside of my production environment - but the devs are making improvements, and hopefully in future the remaining issues are ironed out. I’ll give a 5 star review then.

Thank you for exposing AU parameters!

Thank you so much for finally updating this synth with the exposed AU Parameters. This feature alone will bring back many users, and will make many of them very happy! Also very happy to see the improvements in the UI. Overall, a greatly improved user experience!

Besten Dank :)

They fixed it!

I don’t know why it won’t let me edit my old review. But they fixed the UI code and now it’s super fast on my iPad Air 4. One of the very best synths on iPad now, thanks guys!! Runs and sounds amazing

Response from developer

Thank you for your detailed feedback! Currently, you can use MIDI CC mappings to modify parameters as a workaround while we work on implementing AUv3 parameter mappings. Regarding the GUI performance, the issue may be related to the iPad not utilizing Apple M-series graphics. We’re actively investigating this to improve performance across devices.

It Sounds Awesome

State saving doesn’t work. It’s not usable in any project until it’s fixed. ……I work in Drambo and AUM. It’s not about presets saving, it’s about when you close your project and reopen it, the preset has reset to 00 in whatever bank you’re in. If you only work in cubasis or logic, it will remember your settings, but not Drambo or AUM!

State saving works perfectly and is essential for the app’s functionality. Please ensure you’re saving your presets correctly.

Sehr feiner Synthesizer

Nach dem letzten update einfach nur top. Super schöner Analogsound.

Response from developer

Patch saving issue

It’s a great synth, just wouldn’t allow me to save any custom patches, the app states there are no banks to save too.

Thanks for the fix!

Thanks to the developer for fixing the Sysex import. Works like a charm now!
I think the last thing this synth needs is for the parameters to be exposed so they can be easily modulated in AUM or another AU host (Like they are in OB-XD 3) I’m pretty sure that would make a lot of people happy if this were possible. Still, even without that have to give 5 stars as the developer has been listening and improving this instrument, very appreciated.

Thank you for your kind words and support! We’re glad the Sysex import is working well for you. AUv3 parameter support is actively being worked on, and we’re excited to bring this functionality to enhance your experience.

NO MIDI

At this price point I only assumed it would have midi implementation just like all the other 50 plus synthesizer apps I have and a lot of them free. I can’t use this for serious production without midi in and cc control parameters. Just unacceptable and a huge surprise and letdown.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback. To clarify, Discovery itself includes MIDI In and CC control, plus an on-screen keyboard. When used in an AUv3 host, the host handles MIDI routing, so Discovery relies on the host for MIDI input. The app itself supports MIDI control, but AUv3 hosts manage the MIDI connection automatically. If you’re not seeing expected behavior, it might be a host setup issue.

Mega

Big sound, big character

Very convincing emulation of the already-virtual-analogue Nord Lead 2, with tonnes of presets showcasing a powerful sound and unique character. Stands out among the many VA synths on iOS and cuts right through a mix, an instant favourite.

Naja

Für so eine Teure App, hätte ich erwartet, das es auch auf einem IPad mini funktioniert. Weiterhin wäre es toll gewesen wenn die GUI schärfer wäre. Die Sound sind top aber der Rest eher nicht.

Response from developer

Gonna be fantastic

Years ago I was on tour with a band mate who had a nord on his equipment rider, luckily the keyboard was always there in every city, but this app would be a handy alternative since it can load the nord files to take your actual sounds with you and control it with any MiDI keyboard.

The buttons are a little hard to press on the 11” iPad Pro (small on screen). It doesn’t have a full MIDI menu yet, but this developer is good with updates.

Output seemed a bit hot and I had to turn the master output down below 50% to match levels with my other gear and apps, not really a problem
