are we serious ?
this app used to be about childish creativity , fun , friends , and well , DIY ( do it yourself ) and now its an ai generated coding app. parents / curious explorers , please do not buy this app for you or you kids. it does not express creativity at all.
What happened?
Oh god for free users only itās just AI, itās all AI slop. Oh god I used this app so much when I was younger, it feels like my own child got murdered in front of me even though Iām a childless minor. When I was younger it was children free solcial media buts itās all AI slop now, oh dear god.
not the diy i know
delete this app genuinely theres no point of it being accessible anymore. its complete slop and doesnt allow the same abilities that the original version of the app had. this is beyond disappointing as someone who literally grew up on the app. just delete it at this point, its not like you guys even update or try to fix issues with it anyways. You ruined possibly the best social interaction network for children to interact and learn about the hobbies that interest.

BRING BACK THE OLD DIY!
I barely ever write App Store reviews. But I absolutely, without a doubt, and beyond all reason, must tell you my unsolicited, kind of rude (sorry!) opinion.
Your app sucks. Like⦠bad. Although this is my unwavering opinion, I do have to give you the benefit of the doubt here: I am not a child, I am not your target audience anymore, and I am not new to your app. I am well acquainted with DIY. Or, well, I used to be.
I just landed here from a very long and arduous journey to find proof that DIY ever existed. I used to LOVE your app, big time. I loved everything about it. Whether I was engaging in collecting your adorable badges or just admiring the work of others, I was always having a great time. DIY left a lasting impression on me to the point where I just dedicated two hours of my life trying to find the āold app where doing real life tasks earns you badgesā or the āold adventure app where you earned scout type badgesā or even the ā2010s discontinued kids app that earned adventure badgesā. Where is that app? Because this sure isnāt it.
As soon as I found an old article about you, the signature green background with the DIY bear paw greeted me like an old friend and I was beyond excited (and relieved) that I found you after all these years! Iāve been seriously craving the whimsy and hope for a richer life that your app used to so graciously provide me with. Full transparency, I need to get off this dang phone. I think we ALL need to get off these dang phones. And honestly Iāve been feeling pretty optimistic about it recently. Iāve even started going on some hikes again, which is what reminded me of DIY. I was thinking āhey, I couldāve earned a badge for this on that one app! I wonder whatever happened to that discontinued 2010s app that let you ā¦ā you know the deal. Getting off this phone is hard! Itās so hard!!! We need the old DIY now more than ever to help incentivize us to live good lives. In todayās day and age when thereās all this evil instant gratification in everyoneās pocket, an app like the old version of DIY would fill a huge need for us all to, SAY IT WITH ME, get off these dang phones!!!
But no⦠instead you decided to make an app where kids can use their phones to engage in brainrot activities like using AI slop generators, making memes, and creating Minecraft skins! I, again, will give you the benefit of the doubt and say Iām sure a few of your in app features are decent tools for kids to learn with bla bla bla. But the substance, the badges, the creativity, THE WHIMSY, has just been completely drained and forgotten. I canāt help but think that here, in front of you, you have this wonderful chance to do something different and productive, like you used to, that could really help people and be a beautiful thing, but instead you do this. Itās disappointing to say the least.
Not to add insult to injury but there are some serious backend issues with this app as well. Itās incredibly glitchy and the UI totally sucks. Half the time when I click on something it just doesnāt even open. Also, the graphics never fit the page right. Itās either too big or too small. Your AppStore description still boasts badges, but where? Iāve searched everything that this glitchy lil guy will let me search and I havenāt seen anything even slightly resembling badges. If itās there, and Iām missing it after searching and searching, then thereās clearly something wrong here. I wouldnāt pay a one time fee of $1 for this app, let alone $12.99 a month. Now, the old DIY? Thatās something Iād pay for. And I mean really, genuinely, pay for. $20 a month, easy.
Long story short, I miss the old you. You were beauty. You were grace. You drove me and a bunch of other kids (and adults! Did I mention this should be marketed to adults?) to do better, to be better, to get outside, to build something, to try something new. And if you really tried to expand on that, this app could be one of the most useful, influential apps out there for years to come. I truly believe that. Iām sorry for my harsh words but I do believe Iām right. And, sometimes, the best love is tough love. I love you and miss you DIY. I hope you come back to us someday.
Xoxo,
Claudia
P.S. If you want to brainstorm ideas, Iām your woman. If you couldnāt tell, I have lots of them and Iām more than happy to share.

Im disappointed in this app..
Hi! It's tay7 I really loved diy a year or two ago and I can't post anymore and it's not free I miss the mods and people on there and now I can't post because it shut down tip:add ads instead of changing the whole app! Thank you for responding š

Overall recommended, but I have some feedback. I got this app for my 9 year old last week-end. We liked some things, and not others:
- They have a DIY TV feature that is annoying because my kid couldnāt watch short, but the videos they have were fun, and each video was linked to a good step by step activity.
- There were only 70 courses. It took 5 minutes to find a good one, I wish there was a quicker way to find content. The āStrange Scienceā course we did however was excellent.
- The best part of the app are the creativity tools they are continuously adding in, really enjoyed those.
- There is a community of kids and parents on the app, but you can only join with the paid tier. They say its for safety, but it should be free.

Good app until shutdown
This app was great until itās shutdown and return. When it returned free posting wasnāt available and no one was online, do you guys think you can add back free posting sometime in the future?
Iām grateful I met this app
I use to always go to this app for drawing stuff I had trouble on and other things that I wanted to learn. And it has helped me a lot through the years! Thank you for responding developer. I understand š
Itās very annoying at the beginning
When we are signed in i donāt really know why we have to pay since itās a childrenās app and all kids should have fun. If we donāt buy the pass no kid can have fun on this app. Even if we didnāt buy the pass we should still have fun but not join certain meetings or certain activities. This is my opinion⦠please fix this!

Weāve been using the app for a few weeks now on my daughterās iPad, and itās honestly one of the best apps weāve tried. Sheās 11 and loves drawing, so the art related activities really pulled her in right away. Thereās a huge variety of topics.
It feels safe. Thereās a social side where kids can share what theyāve made, but itās clearly moderated. Itās also very easy to navigate, and the video lessons are high quality and actually engaging (not overly childish).
Itās kept her occupied in a good way, and Iāve noticed sheās even started drawing more on paper because of it. Totally worth downloading if your kidās into creative stuff.

Why did it shut down for this?
I used to love diy and made some good friends there, but at one point it shut down for what I thought was to "fix some bugs". I expected it to come back after a few days or weeks, but ended up waiting for almost a whole YEAR. I reinstalled the app only to find that everything was VERY different to how I remembered it, had trouble working things out and it was just bad overall.

My 8 and 7 year old love it.
DIY has great online classes for kids. Found it because my 8 year old wanted to code. The courses are perfect for him and my daughter. I feel safe letting them use it whilst I get some me time!!
