So usefull
One small thing could be very usefull, to test the reaction of certain fixtures, is to have the possibility to had a fading time to a preset. Sometimes we need to have that to test the quality of dimming of some fixtures.
Thanks
Very useful
My only issue is, could the app have an option to prevent my device from ‘sleeping’. It would be really handy when I’m focussing or using the dipstwitch calculator to address fixtures if my device would stay awake via the app.
Nice tool, but problem with creating fixtures
My setup is iPhone 12mini @ios16.1.1, APP ver. 1.5.2.9.0.315, FW 1.5.0.9.0.14, (German)
Five stars without that issue, but as long as I can’t build custom fixtures properly, only three.
Efficace à un détail près
Perfect tool with sume bugs
That would be nice
Amazing and helpful, but…
That being said, this app and device is a super little time saver most of the time. It can be everything from an RDM controller, to a simple DMX controller, to a moving light/multipart fixture controller, AND do it well - all from my phone.
The handiest tool
Make it work consistently!
Suddenly Español
This device is intended for the pro world but they can’t seem for the life of them to make it reliable. I have to fight off forced firmware updates and learn a new language while the gaffer is waiting on me to simply dim a light.
Response from developer
Harry, So sorry for the trouble. We did release a bad version that affected the language displayed. Build 581 should be approved shortly. For those who are still waiting, you can fix by: Going to phone settings, General, language & region and delete any secondary languages. A lot of the firmware changes fix various DMX/RDM output issues. Using the back arrow will bypass the dongle update. Thank you for the bug reports you have submitted. Each report helps us identify and resolve bugs. We have submitted an app update to resolve the character bug which will be released as soon as it is approved by the App Store.
Great tool
I would love to see a feature to capture a preset from the incoming DMX stream in the future.
Response from developer
Hi Markandnancy, thank you for the positive review. You can save a preset from incoming DMX in the view levels screen using the 3-dot menu in the upper right. That preset is then available in the DMX Controller. Please reach out any time with any additional suggestions or questions. --David
Don’t update
A great tool
The only thing it needs is a way to create sequences. This would be incredibly helpful for testing, light shootouts and mockups.
Response from developer
Hi Sukka3, Thank you for the kind words. Sequence playback is on our feature wish list. I will share your request with the software team. Please reach out any time. -David
Nice Tool I like to work with but with room for improvement
- to I have the possibility to do a fixture-test with several fixtures, for example to test an entire truss at once.
- to have a next/prev button in the DMX-controller-app for faster checking device by device
- intuitively I tap on the channels in the DMX-adress-section-overview instead of typing e.g. 1+4+6+9 enter…. but its not working, may be you can install that.
- I miss one function from my Swisson-DMX-Tester: the „every third, or every 4th“ function, that is very helpful when testing LED-Pars with just a few DMX-channels.
Maybe there is a possibility for these things to install in later updates.
Looking forward to see how it grows!
Great app, so easy to just have in my pelican ready to go. I’m wondering with the new ambient light sensors and camera changes in the new iPhone Xs, will iPhone users be seeing the light meter feature anytime soon?
Response from developer
I am sorry for the trouble. Please force close the app and turn off the DMXcat. Then turn the DMXcat back on. If the light comes on steady green (instead of flashing) then the flashlight button on the side of the dongle is probably stuck. This causes the unit to boot into bootloader mode. We are working on discovering the physical cause and fixing the issue. If this does not work please send me an email at DMXcatReport@citytheatrical.com so I can help you resolve the issue.
Could use some presets for arrays
Presets for soca: 1,7,13, etc; 2,8,14,etc;...6,12,18,etc.
Being able to name your DMXcat like something personal like “My Tester” would be cool for when you have multiple DMXcats stored on your phone. (This is an issue on my show). These are just things that would be nice updates. Everything that it is now works well for the day to day testing.
Response from developer
Derrick7E, thank you for the suggestions. I have submitted the naming request to the development team. Can you please send me an email @ appdev@citytheatrical.com so I can get more information about the soca presets request?
Awesome tool
Response from developer
Bruce, thank you for your review. You can use the black left and right arrows near the bottom of the keypad to cycle up and down through dimmers. We will work on improving our documentation.
Powerful Tool
I have only one small request... I like to use the app on my iPad because of the larger wheels and faders. Please please please let the app rotate to landscape view. I frequently use the app while my iPad is connected to a keyboard. I have gotten used to just using the app sideways, but is a bit annoying.
Response from developer
Norby9k, Thank you for the review. I have submitted your request to our software team to work on. Please reach out with any additional problems. appdev@citytheatrical.com.
Good app and tool
I'd also like to be able to optionally sort the RDM list by DMX address, too.
The fixture manual lookup is awesome.
Response from developer
Fghjghdhnguj, we recently added sorting to the RDM screen.
